What does % of PB mean?

Post by First Reviewer » Fri Mar 01, 2013 9:39 pm

I'm new to all of this and with Pugsy's help I have been able to upload the software where I can now download my CPAP Data.

In doing so I am running into Sleep Charts that I now don't understand. One of the Charts deals with "% of PB". I don't have a clue as to what that means. I have looked on the internet and found something like that but nothing that explains what it means. My Doctor looks at what I give him, but he's so busy I hate to hold him up. Anyway if anyone know please let me know. Have a Great Week End Everyone.

Percent of time during the night spent in Periodic Breathing and Periodic Breathing is ....from Respironics clinical manual.....

Respironics data feature defined as a persistent waning and waxing breathing pattrn which repeats itself between 30 and 100 seconds. The nadir of the breathing pattern is characterized by at least a 40% reduction in airflow from an established baseline flow. The pattern must be present for several minutes before it can be identified as periodic breathing. No therapy adjustments are made in response to periodic breathing.

Cheyenne Stokes Respiration is a form of periodic breathing (but not the only form) that if we saw a lot of it being shown it might be an indication of some other physical problems related to breathing.

For most of us we all will have some time spent in PB that the machine will flag from time to time. A little is normal...a lot warrants further investigation. How much is "a lot" ? We have never been able to find out a numerical value.
