Mask with no neck strap?
Mask with no neck strap?
Hello,
I am on a Resmed S9 Autoset with humidifier and have a fullface Mirage Quattro mask. I have a fleece for the neck strap also. I have been getting pains in my neck and headaches in the morning from where the neck strap sits and I can't seem to avoid this no matter what I do before going to bed. Sometimes it causes dizzyness.
I think I want to try a new full face mask, one where the strap doesn't sit on the neck but on the skull where there is no nerves and things to squash etc. Can anyone recommend a good one that is compatible with the Resmed system?
I would appreciate any help.

Re: Mask with no neck strap?
I trust you tried the mask without the fleece on the headgear? Seems like it might be enough to cock your head at an angle or is a lump on the pillow. I've never used one, but looking from the outside in.

Have you tried loosening the strap?

Re: Mask with no neck strap?
---Is here any possibility of a pre-existing neck or spinal injury that might make you more sensitive to the strap in that position?
---A full face mask with a chin cup may require less tension on the lower straps.
---I had good luck with a full face gel mask.

Re: Mask with no neck strap?
Hi Mathew,
I use the Quattro and have for about 1 1/2 years. Awhile back I started using the headgear upside down per advice from one of the pundits here. It helped alot. The longer strap then goes across the biggest pert of your head and the shorter strap sort of tucks under your head but not really on your neck. The lower strap keeps things from riding up. Sounds odd but all I can say is that it works great for me.

Thanks Jaimiswolf!
I shall give that a try you have just saved me 200 dollars! I remember reading about problems with the FX anyway about it riding up into the eyes and the nose bridge latex popping out sometimes.

Re: Mask with no neck strap?
Mathew,
I assume you have read Janknitz's little discourse on the Quattro? That's a very good starting point and I gained useful info from it. It's called Taming the quattro and link is on her signature or use search...I don't have it handy.
Biggest issue is over tightening. It's a double air cushion maskm and that function is defeated by squashing it to your face through overtightening. Also I adjust the forehead cushion as Janknitz suggests. It's easy to get bridge-of-the-nose issues if that's adjusted wrong. Mine is adjusted almost all the way in (clockwise and away from forehead).
Also I use a cloth gasket made from an old Tee shirt. Actually I use a double layer. Cushions and helps with the seal. Use once and wash...or I do.
PM me if you want to discuss details...happy to help.

Re: Mask with no neck strap?
The NEW Quattro Air has a greatly improved headgear. I have no pressure on my old arthritic neck at all!
Much improved over the Mirage Quattro and highly recommended for neck issues.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

Re: Mask with no neck strap?
I tried many many masks ------ all bad. Hard to sleep on my side - uncomfortable. Then I got a Sleep Weaver mask. The strap is over the head - not around the neck and it's cloth so you can easily sleep in any position. May want to try it. Circadiance is the company but most DME suppliers can get it for you.
