If it is fuzz in the stiff (hook) side, a tiny crochet hook can be used to remove the fibers.
If the soft loop side has too many broken loops, you will have to replace the strip.
Fabric stores sell sew-in Velcro--it's cheaper than new harness.

I use the Quattro and have not re adjusted my velcro more than twice since the day I set up the mask. My mask is 18 months old. I only use the plastic clips...velcro is like new. (NOTE: I have not washed my headgear more than twice in the 18 months).

Don't take/leave it apart when you wash it.
I've never had a problem with that. My headgear will wear out before the Velcro loses its grip.
I have both the UMFF and the Quattro and they both use the same headgear (but with two less clips on the top straps of the Q).
And, like LSAT, I rarely have to make adjustments to mine. I wash mine every few months and the washing/drying usually takes some of the "slack" out of it (shrinks it a bit). I managed to get four years out of my original UMFF headgear (2005-2009), borrowed the set from my backup mask for a couple of years, and am still using the replacement set that I started using at the beginning of 2012.

all wonderful proclamations of headgear life & cleaning processes.

my head gear is almost a yea old...I haven't washed my headgear in several months and the section that is losing it strength is a part that I almost never undo.

Several times over the past 2 weeks, after tossing or turning in my sleep, I've been woken by the fact that my mask is loose and the velcro has released with the clip still in place... since this portion of the strap has previously been against the pillow, I doubt I am undoing it in my sleep.

It might be time to buy a new headgear; or is this a competition?

Do you have some velcro strips?
I fixed my tired Padacheek barrel cozy (velcro got tired) with just a little bit of new velcro and a bit of gorilla glue....no sewing required.
Just glued little strips over the old strips.

Sometimes I'll use a safety pin on one side of the strap, such that I can still easily adjust the other side to tighten or loosen the mask.
