Hose separation during sleep

Hi guys/gals. Hoping someone in here may have had similar issues and can offer some ideas.

I have a Resmed S9. No issues with it, is a pretty good machine. I use the nasal piece (although in recent weeks have just switched over to the Sleepweaver... it's sweeeet!! <- not an ad/promo)

Anyhow, the issue that I have had for some time has been with the join in the hoses... if I use the humidifier the heated hose and the next hose that joins to the facemask just pushes in and has no clip of any sort... and it just pops out in the night at various times... frustrating because when it does not only do I wake but it gives me a greatly increased heart rate when it pops out and blows air everywhere...

When I had the old nose plug I put insulation tape on the end of the pipe and that seemed to work for a bit but it seems to me that the heated pipe has just expanded too and it kept happening... with the Sleepweaver I haven't been using the humidifier so it has been straight out of the S9 to the mask and it was okay for a week or two but it is now also popping off in the night.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

All of my hose popping loose were either because the hose was not the right size, or old. when I got my first machine it was a real problem that when I got a replacement hose became a non-issue.

New hoses (and connectors) are very inexpensive, might be time to replace yours.

Are you talking about the Climateline heated hose for the S9?
I have a minor issue with it being a bit loose at the hose to mask hose connection with non ResMed masks. Just a bit loose.
For me it is usually remedied by just cramming the mask hose coupling really into the Climateline. That usually holds.
If that didn't work I might add a bit of tape around the mask hose coupling area so it is a bit "fatter" and should then stay more securely in the Climateline.
One could tape the 2 hoses together but then that could be a lot of extra work when cleaning the mask equipment is needed.

I have been using the same ClimateLine Max hose since that model came out (around two years ago). It never leaked. Over time it has gotten looser at the fitting to the mask. To the point where I would have to check it each time I rolled over. Not being as creative as Pugsy, I did not think of ways to adapt the mask. I tried a new ClimateLine Max hose I had in my stash of supplies this week. It was a fantastic change, the hose is a tight fit at the fitting to mask connection.

My opinion is that ResMed fixed there problem they had when the S9s came out in 2009/2010 with the original ClimateLine hose. It had problems with a stress fracture where the hose met the fitting and would begin to leak. Now that they live longer, this issue of the rubber like substance stretching over time has become apparent. I agree with the previous replies to your message and thought I would share my story.

I had an issue with my climate line coming off of the quick disconnect part between the hose and my Quattro FFM during the night.

I put 2 small drops of superglue inside the hose connector & then slid the quick disconnect into it.. It worked wonders for me!!

It keeps the resmed connector on the hose and still allows for a quick disconnect from my Quattro mask.

my old hose end had gotten a bit loose and slippery, and was coming off the mask connector, and being too cheap to bother with buying another plain hose, at the time, (mental thinking, the hose is fine, why should I replace it just because one end is getting loose?) I pushed the mask connector into the hose end, and then took some heavy thread, and wound it tightly around the end of the hose, compressing it onto the fitting... worked a treat, left it that way for a couple more years until I decided to replace the hose for other reasons

as palerider said, if the hose is fine why replace it? it is simply a case of where the two hoses join it is a badly thought out design with no locking procedure so it just slips out... may have to go with just continuing to tape it up making it larger until the day comes that it finally splits.

Here's another thought for a solution: Switch the hose around so that the "loose" end attaches to the humidifier (or the machine) and the tighter end connects to the mask. Or just buy a new hose.

can't switch the hoses around (that I have found)...

I went to my local CPAP place where I bought the machine and they said "well it shouldn't do that"... yeah thanks guys...

in the US parts aren't too bad but over here in Australia we are ripped off stupid!! A Swift FX pack sells on cpap.com for about $100 but over here the exact same price was getting close to $300!!! (this was in the last few months)

We are having the same problem with our hose coming loose from our masks. The heated hose in particular will not stay attached for even an hour at a time. I decided to put some rubber bands on the end of the hose that attaches to the mask. It tightens up the connection just the right amount. We can still remove the hose if we want, and it will go back on without a problem. It increases the friction of the connection just enough that the hose stays on when in use.

Hi Dave, thought late!, for the health benefit of yourself & any new readers, just wanted to point out this solution isn't medically OK. It is dangerous to have even small amounts of super glue on a medical device / near your face, with you breathing in & out - even if you can't notice the glue by smell or effect, even if it's on the outside of the hose connector. Particularly, but not only, when you're using the medical device with glue on it repeatedly, i.e. most nights. (For one thing, there isn't a perfect seal on the facemask & its connection to the hose, in order for exhaled air to get out of the mask, & the hose to detatch.) People who inhale glue fumes suffer brain damage etc.

There ARE better solutions, as seen in this thread!

Your "reasons" are stupid, the there is no intentional venting where hose pieces go together.

The only reason not to glue bits together is that the then can't be disassembled.

Cyanoacrylate doesn't outgass for extended periods.
