Cleaning the Humidifier Reservoir
Cleaning the Humidifier Reservoir
I just figured out a really easy way to clean the deposits off of the humidifier tray that holds the water. Use CLR! You can get it in Home Depot and possibly in your pharmacy. No scrubbing. Just pour some in, wait about 3 minutes, and wash out. Easy peasey.

Cleaning the Humidifier Reservoir
Ok. Yikes about using CLR! I'd just spend $25 to replace my reservoir periodically before using that or what my Dr. recommends which is acetic acid.
Right now I use hydrogen hydroxide wherever I can obtain it but sometimes it contains traces of fluoride ions depending upon where I'm able to get the stuff. Hydrogen hydroxide is a universal solvent and I'm sure you can get your hands on it.

Re: Cleaning the Humidifier Reservoir
I just pour a splash of vinegar into the tub, and let it sit. Then 30 minutes later I just swish it around with my finger until the walls are no longer gritty feeling. Then I add enough water to dilute the vinegar and get to the fill line and let it sit again, then rinse it all out.
Vinegar is also great for that crud that builds up on (or inside) a shower head or around the water dispenser on your fridge.

Actually, vinegar basically IS acetic acid. (haven't figured out how to edit posts here yet)

I run mine (same PR System 1) through the dishwasher once s week. It says they are top rack safe and my dishwasher doesn't have a heating element in any case. works fine. I did choose a detergent off EWGs most safe list. I have a really bad sinus infection right now and will do it every day. Check on line for yours or call cpap.com.

Cool, "passover" humidification, distilled water and a good hot rinse of the tank every few months keeps mine looking just fine. I really wouldn't want to put anything in my HH tank that I wouldn't drink.

This is my reasoning too, and is the reason I choose hydrogen hydroxide. Google hydrogen hydroxide in order fine available cheap sources.
Honestly it helps that I live where my tap water does not have hard deposits. It also helps to dump the chamber every morning and fill it at bed time so it doesn't end up like pond water.

drinking hydrogen peroxide is not recommended either.PlinkerCraig wrote:This is my reasoning too, and is the reason I choose hydrogen hydroxide. Google hydrogen hydroxide in order fine available cheap sources.

Re: Cleaning the Humidifier Reservoir
The material safety datasheet for what I'm recommending refers to the compound by another chemical alias but this is what I'm referring to. I just tested its toxicity by drinking a mouthful and it seemed fine. I'll let you know if I'm still okay in the morning. MSDS is worth reading

Not a lot of chemistry geeks here, eh Craig?PlinkerCraig wrote:Ok. Yikes about using CLR! I'd just spend $25 to replace my reservoir periodically before using that or what my Dr. recommends which is acetic acid.

I prefer dihydrogen monoxide myself; my provider assures it is fluoride-free. And acetic acid always left a bit of a vinegary odor behind when I used it...

But, you know.......if you inhale too much of that stuff, it could kill you, too.RicaLynn wrote:Not a lot of chemistry geeks here, eh Craig?PlinkerCraig wrote:Ok. Yikes about using CLR!
