Does ASV *cause* flow limitations?!

Post by justinjustin » Wed Oct 08, 2014 7:45 am

Do ASV cause flow limitations?

I did an experiment and tried CPAP and then ASV to compare the difference and the Flow Limitation graphs don't make any sense.
The FL on CPAP were minimal, but on ASV they shoot up?

First, my CPAP with Quattro FFM

Then the ASV with Quattro FFM.

You need to include the pressure graphs for each test to have much hope of an answer to your question and then I am not sure there is one.
In my mind it's an apples and oranges comparison because of the pressure differences....fixed vs the ASV highly variable pressure.

What was the cpap pressure fixed at and what were the settings on the ASV? If minimum EPAP didn't equal fixed CPAP...I don't know how we could compare them....or to be honest could we compare them even if they were equal.

what are your pressures on both?

the adapts seem to score FL differently than the lesser machines.

CPAP:
6 cm

ASV:
EPAP 6cm
IPAP 12.55cm (W-Avg) 6.50cm (min) 12.06cm (med) 15.98cm (95%) 16.00cm (max)

Both were from S9 ASV. CPAP-mode and then ASV-Standard.

AHI on either were < 2. Im still usually very fatigued and normally take the mask off after a few hrs in ASV mode.

I really want to understand why the FLs are so drastically different in ASV mode

My FL's are drastically different too in straight ASV mode.......mine never looked like this on apap or cpap. If you find the answer I would love to know what it is!

Found an old pic of my FL's when I was on Cpap for comparison.

well, let us know when you find out, because it's a common thing, my friend who's on a 36037 adapt has the same pattern.
