Bronchitis and CPAP
Bronchitis and CPAP
I am suffering from a bad bout of bronchitis and was wanting some help with my Cpap settings. Should I increase humidity and heat or the other way around to help with the bronchitis? The doctor gave me a whole pharmacy of medications and told me to definitely stay on Cpap, which I would anyway. Thanks for any help you can pass my way, feeling miserable

Sorry you are not feeling well, chest congestion sucks!
In general most people fell that an increase in humidity level helps with colds and bronchitis.......sort of analogous to taking a hot shower and getting that warm moisture in the nose and chest.......I'd give that a try first, and hang in there!

Thank you TangledHose, I'll give it a try. I really appreciate the answer and the encouragement. I have to say that when I'm on the CPAP I feel much better than without it during the day. I think it is keeping the bronchitis from getting worse.TangledHose wrote:Sorry you are not feeling well, chest congestion sucks!

Re: Bronchitis and CPAP
In my opinion, you need to try both options........more and less.......to see which one works best for YOU.
Personally, I'm in the "less" camp (cool, "passover"), but each person needs to decide for themselves.

Re: Bronchitis and CPAP
Yes increase the humidity as much as possible. You might even consider picking one of those steamers for the room (be aware that if you have wall paper this might have it come down by itself - don't ask how I know).
I have had pneumonia/bronchitis and cpap made breathing so much easier that I was wearing it while working from home - it did make answering the phone a bit difficult.....

Re: Bronchitis and CPAP
I've been fortunate not to have had bronchitis since starting cpap, but when i do get some kind of respiratory ailment, that's about the only time I start using humidity, I can't say for certain that it helps, but I *THINK* it helps, and that goes a long wayLogies101 wrote:I am suffering from a bad bout of bronchitis .... sit in front of the TV with the machine on, watch a show or three with high humidity, and try low humidity...this is if you're bored AND have time to play vegetable.

actually, using it while awake, with the humidity cranked up on high, might be a really good idea, help loosen up the crap.Tatooed Lady wrote:sit in front of the TV with the machine on, watch a show or three with high humidity, and try low humidity...this is if you're bored AND have time to play vegetable.

Re: Bronchitis and CPAP
Bad cold since Friday... lots of breathing issues, not stuffed up, just having problems breathing. 10+ hours on cpap, Sat, Sun and Mon ea. I moved up my low Hum 2.0 to 3.5. While on the mask, I was able to breath fairly easily, cough pretty much turned off. Without the CPAP, I would have had to go in for help. when I have bad hay fever, I go and sit on the side of the bed with my mask on sometimes, occassionally I will move the machine to the recliner.

Re: Bronchitis and CPAP
Sounds like Cpap machines are good for more than keeping us breathing at night. I sure am glad I had mine these past few days, the only relief I've had is when I'm on the Hose. Hope we both get to feeling better soon.Krelvin wrote:Bad cold since Friday... lots of breathing issues, not stuffed up, just having problems breathing. 10+ hours on cpap, Sat, Sun and Mon ea. Re: Bronchitis and CPAP
Can one add Eucalyptus oil or similar to the humidifier?

Re: Bronchitis and CPAP
No, never add anything directly, but you can e.g. put some oil on a cotton ball right in front of the air intake, plus there are specific ones made for Cpap that come in a 'delivery' mode ... (look down the pg), and other varieties besides that particular choice.
