I have been doing nasal washes for years, based on a handout that I got from my doctor's office. I mostly do them in the winter, when it gets dry and my sinuses get really bad. I will typcially do one in the morning and one in the evening when I am having problems. The formula I got from the handout is 8 oz. distilled water, with 1/4 tsp. salt and 1/8 tsp. baking soda, brought to body temperature. I use the temp probe in my microwave and set it on 99 degrees. Then I use a bulb syringe to administer.
I use the saline sprays also, but they are only good for moisturizing and do not clean out your sinuses like the washes do. One caution: I tried heating a saline spray to body temperature once and then using it as a wash. NOT recommended. It was like squirting acid in my nose! It took a few minutes to recover from the pain. Also, the sprays are not even the best thing I've found for moisturizing. Saline gels, like Ayr, swirled around in your nose on a Q-tip feels more soothing and lasts longer.
