Has anyone tried the Amara full-face mask? If so, what was your impression of it? Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

You can search the forum for past discussions about it. It wasn't one of Respironics finest moments from what I heard from the members here.
You can go to cpap.com and their mask products and click on the Amara and read the reviews there.

I personally don't use a full face mask so I have no opinion on it.
What are you using now?
If you are going to hang around the forum for a while it would help us if we could see what you are using at a glance so we wouldn't have to ask which mask you are using.
There might be someone here who has used/tried both the Amara and whatever you are using now and maybe be able to offer insight into how each compares to the other.

So please add your equipment to your profile like I have mine below.
If you don't know how

The Amara did not seal well for me. It was also painful to the bridge of my nose even with a gel pad on the bridge.

Yes, I have. It's available with a standard clear silicone cushion, like the Quattro, or an interchangeable Gel version. It's really three masks -- The original version, which is no longer sold, then the second 'improved' version, and then the third 'Gel' version.

The first version had a significant problem with the cushion design and frame configuration that ended up causing pressure sores at the bridge of the nose for many people, myself included.

The 'revised' Amara shortened the length of the frame which helped lessen the pressure on the nose bridge for many.

The 'Gel' cushion version was a significant improvement, at least for me. It's a squishy, comfortable material and eliminated the pressure sore issue. Plus it sealed well for me.

The Amara is nice because the cushions are easily removed and cleaned, similar to the Quattro Air, etc. And the vent is relatively quiet. The headgear is actually quite nice as well. Plus its a very low profile, good looking design.

I'd recommend at least trying it, starting with the Gel version. Especially if you have a newer Respironics machine, that uses the System One resistance control, that requires a PR-brand mask to use accurately. Of all PRs FF masks this is the best one, although its due for a freshening.

The Amara Gel mask is what fit me the best today at my mask fitting. I guess I'll find out how well it really works when I get my machine...

We (DME I work in) don't use it that much anymore. Partly due to the problems with the first edition and because we noticed that it leaked a lot towards the bottom of the mask, by the mouth. The gel version did improve it but it still seemed to leak more so than other mask. I prefer the Resmed Quattro or the FP Simplus.
