Manufacturers' Leak Rates for Masks

Post by jaycee2 » Wed Nov 05, 2014 4:40 pm

Good afternoon! I recall reading a chart that had the acceptable leak rates for masks (FFM and nasal masks) here a couple of months ago and now can't find it. I am specifically interested in the Resmed Mirage FX Nasal Mask. My DME gave me one to try instead of the F&P Simplus. She said that the leak rate on the Simplus is supposed to be 24 or less. Thanks for your help.

google for the users manual for the mask, all masks (that I've seen) have a chart or table for their built in vent rates.

that said, most mosts vent somewhere around 20lpm @4cm and somewhere around 50lpm@20cm. (usually somewhere between 45-55lpm at the top end.)

leak/vent is pressure dependent. resmed machines want to have an *excess* leak of 24lpm over the vent rate, or less.

Fisher-Paykel Simplus has a leak rate of about 23 lpm at 4 cm H2O.

Here is a link to the user guide.

Thanks. I see the chart in the back of the Resmed Mirage FX nasal mask booklet. It looks like it's 19L/min. at 4 cmH2O and 40 L/min at 16 cm H2O. And Resmed machines want to have an *excess* leak of 24 L/min over the vent rate, or less. I think that was the number I was looking for.

The link for the Simplus doesn't work unfortunately but I'll search online.

If anyone has the chart that would be great too.

The link is to a .PDF file. If you don't have Acrobat reader installed that might account for issues in following the link.

When looking for information about a particular mask, I search using the name of the mask followed by the words "guide" and "PDF". That generally gets me to a user guide in .PDF format.

Try going to http://www.fphcare.com and then navigating within their site.

Normally the leak rate chart (graph) is included in the package with each new mask or on the mfg website as indicated above.

Thanks IreneN. JDS74 suggested the same thing. If it's a PDF file, I open PDF files all the time but my computer doesn't want to open that link. Very strange but there you have it.

it's a very big, very detailed file, in all the languages... you might need to give it some time.

however, what you want is:
cm lpm
4 22
5 25
7 29
9 33
11 13
13 40
15 43
17 46
19 49
21 52
23 54
25 57

again, quite in line with my generalization of about 20-50lpm from 4-20cm

Sorry about that... I have a very fast internet connection, forgetting about those less fortunate. And just read too fast and missed JDS74's post.

And in the spirit of repetition today...I like graphics.
