Is my cpap making my bronchitis worse
Is my cpap making my bronchitis worse
The last couple of weeks have miserable for me, I got bronchitis for the first time in my life. Got the meds, seemed to get over it but the Cpap seems to exasperate it. Bronchitis is back and I don't know what to do anymore, I'm dammed if I do and dammed if I don't. Either the brochitis is going to get me or the sleep apnea is. I don't know what to do anymore. It really feel like the cpap is in some way bringing on the bronchitis. Tonight I'm going to sleep in the recliner. Feeling down and depressed.

More or less humidity might help. Experiment.

Re: Is my cpap making my bronchitis worse
Sometimes cpap therapy triggers GERD (silent acid reflux) which roughs up your oesophagus and triggers asthma or bronchitis. Try elevating the head of your bed or use a wedge to have gravity help. But get tested for it.

Re: Is my cpap making my bronchitis worse
I take 40mg nexium everyday for the gerd, I've had gerd related coughing in the the past and this is not that but thanks for the suggestion. My fear is that it truly is the Cpap machine that is somehow causing this breathing problem. I don't want to stop the therapy but this is turning into a vicious circle for me. For some reason the air feels so frigid no matter what i do to try to warm it up and I know that cold air is not good at all for bronchitis. Feeling desperate.BlackSpinner wrote:Sometimes cpap therapy triggers GERD (silent acid reflux) which roughs up your oesophagus and triggers asthma or bronchitis. Can you turn up the room temperature?
You might also experiment with a higher minimum pressure. I found that too low of a pressure irritated my throat even though I didn't show any apneas. I'm guessing it was some sort of airway restriction.
