Not everyone lives where neighbors might complain about the noise of a generator and even if they were close by they might be okay with the noise if they were allowed to recharge their phones, etc with the power from a generator.
My husband just had to get a whole house generator to have "just in case". Been not quite 2 years now that we have had it and still haven't needed it.
My closest neighbor is maybe 1/2 mile away. If I can put up with his shooting fireworks off all year long even if he was right next to me I don't think I would worry about his getting a little extra noise from a generator. We are talking the big boomer fireworks that sends the horses running and get the dogs barking. Highly annoying and he does it year round.

The message is to be considerate of others not like you are on an internet forum.
It just seems that noise does travel esp when the power is out. Or is it just more noticeable cuz all the background noise went out with the power.
