Ivory Substitute

Post by bxe123 » Tue Nov 17, 2015 11:40 am

Anyone have a suggestion for a soap that does not have a scent, like Ivory Liquid, which it seems Ivory has stopped making. All the things we try from Target etc have odd aromas - Ivory was really the closest to "no scent". My wife is very sensitive to smell, and all the alternatives have been less than ideal.

We are using 7th Generation Free and Clear Hand Wash right now, which is ok for smell, but not perfect. Also, there's no large refill bottle, and that would be preferred also, but I thought maybe this would be a good place to find some alternatives to try even if they don't have the refill.

Any help is appreciated.

I, too have noticed the increasing scarcity of truly unscented products.
Since soap making is a hobby for some, I suggest you try craft stores.
Googling "unscented" gives a lot of possibilities:

I did the searches below using my DuckDuckGo search engine (Firefox) and they popped up these products… haven’t tried any of these soaps and some recommendations are old. Here's the search entries I used:

site:cpaptalk.com unscented soap
site:cpaptalk.com scent free soap

Here’s some soaps I culled after five minutes research:

Method Go Naked Dish Soap
Seventh Generation Free & Clear Dish Soap
Clearly Natural Unscented Pure and Natural Glycerine Soap
Dr Bronner's Unscented Pure-Castile Liquid Baby Soap

Like I said no experience using them, however it’ll get you started… of course there is always a vinegar and water rinse to remove any odor… lots of folks like that technique.

Let us know what you find that works.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Over the years, some products I liked have either vanished or acquired fragrance.
This is why I linked to the hobbyist/manufacturing supplies.
I might order some goat milk soap--it sounds nice.

Amazon.com still sells Ivory Liquid soap. It's overpriced, buy you can still get it there.
You can try Dial Baby body + Hair Wash. it is fragrance free. (walmart, in with the baby shampoo)

I have both here, and just did a sniff test. They smell about the same.

Dr Bronner's Unscented Pure-Castile Liquid Baby Soap is scent free; it's available at Whole Foods, many health food stores and online. Most other products have either fragrance or use cleaning chemicals that will trigger my asthma. Seventh Generation stuff does not live up to their advertising; most of their products are terrible for my asthma.

The closest thing I have found to Ivory is Method hand wash gel unscented ( The package says free of dyes and perfumes). I found it at target but it is on the natural product aisle not the aisle with the liquid soaps. It comes in a refill pouch.

I'm very sensitive to fragrances and the Seventh Generation stuff works best to me. Ivory IS scented, but it is one scent which doesn't bother me too much. I prefer Seventh Generation. It's reasonably priced at Target.

BTW, it's the dish soap I use.

You need to always look in the "natural" aisle.

Unscented shampoo without sulphates is even more difficult to find.

I could NOT find an unscented shampoo without sulfates. I tried one that was "lightly scented" with natural oils and made me sick plus it dried my hair and skin terribly. I'm OK with certain scents I'm very used to, so I just stick with them. Every once in a while my husband finds a different scent of the soap we use on sale, and I threaten to throw him out of the house with the new stuff (kidding!).

What really gets me is products that say "unscented" on the front but listed on the ingredients is "fragrance". UGH!

My daughter did her first "adulting" this weekend with an appointment at a real beauty shop instead of a "chop shop", and she came home with a head full of chemicals. I was sick all night because she came in my room and flipped her hair all around showing off her new "do".

This sucks!

I use Johnson and Johnson Baby Shampoo on my mask and haven't noticed an odor.
