AHI NUMBER - Before/After CPAP

Post by WineTravelSleep » Thu Aug 04, 2016 5:04 am

Hi All,

The best indicator of how a CPAP device is helping is how effective it is in reducing your AHI. The Apnea-Hypopnea Indexis (AHI) used to assess the severity of sleep apnea based on the total number of complete cessations (apnea) and partial obstructions (hypopnea) of breathing occurring per hour of sleep.

I thought it would be interesting for to see how effective CPAP is in helping treat Sleep Apnea... and where they stand in comparison to others. Add how long you have been using CPAP and your equipment if you want but that is optional.

My numbers:

Before CPAP: 57.0 AHI
Using CPAP: 0.6 AHI

OPTIONAL:
How Long: 4 years
Machine: Respironics System One REMStar 60
Mask: Respironics Full Face Comfort Gel
Setting: Auto

Hi, are you asking just out of personal interest as a patient, or something else? We're just about all convinced it works, and very well, or wouldn't be here at all, so wonder where your question comes from.

No biggie- equipment is in the sig line. Sleep study I was at 10AHI but desats down to 80%. First week with the titration settings it went to 25AHI. It's been 2 months and I'm still working on breaking 2 AHI more than 1 day in a row. I want to get it lower because I'm still feeling tired during the day, although not as badly.

Hi there Julie. Just joined this board today.

Yes, interesting to me... so thought others would be interested as well. Was prompted to ask after reading the recent question from Aemilian, using CPAP for only 3 days and asked if going from AHI of 35 to 12 is good?

I think it will be interesting to see how results vary.

Oh, I see... as a newbie didn't know about the profile where you can enter the equipment you use... will do that. Thanks omne!

Best Regards!

Thanks - always nice to see new members, just being cautious because we've had too many newbies asking similar questions, but with 'agendas', financial interests, etc, so thanks for answering.

Most people that have been on CPAP for a significant length of time have an AHI in the low single digits. Knowing what my AHI was 8 years ago compared to now is useless information to anyone.

Kind of a Moot or Useless question.

If you use XPAP correctly and treat your Sleep Apnea, you live a longer and better life. If you don't Mother Nature will take you out of the equation, problem solved.

It's your choice, you get to live with it.
Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

Your focus is too narrow. You are thinking about people who come here and optimize their CPAP therapy. If you had the data of the general population of CPAP users, you would see significantly higher AHIs.

I smile every morning when I check my AHI. I had an AHI of 67 at the sleep study and now consistently read below 1. I've told the missus if the house is on fire, she is to grab the cat and I'll grab my CPAP machine...

Sleep Study AHI 57 which I thought was huge until I came onto this forum

Last night AHI 0.83. I had a 15 minute break about 3 and a half hours in for a toilet stop. The second half of my night was 0.24 over 5 hours. Awesome!

Things are just slowly getting better. I had a fatigue free day at work and didn't realise it because I'm in the last stages of recovering from a virus.
