I am due to be getting my equipment via FedEx sometime tomorrow and am very anxious to start using it - it's been 5 years since my study and I am just now getting my first machine. I have been dealing with a severe ear infection for the past 2+ weeks and am just now getting it under control. Never had an ear infection until I was about 37 years old - quite some time ago . I have had a number of them since then. I purchased the heated humidifier to go along with my Remstar Series M Auto and a ComfortLite 2 mask, Thinking that the humidification may help with nasal congestion - kind of like a nasal rinse. I have read posts on both sides of the fence and am now wondering if my choice is a good one, or a mistake that is just going to re-agitate my current condition and create more of the same in the future? Any response appreciated -- Thanks
Ear infections and CPAP/Humidification
I think your choice was just fine. The CL2 mask is actually two interfaces - a nose mask and nasal pillows. Unless you are a mouth breather/leaker you will be able to use one or the other interface.
I find that if I use my humidifier on 2, I will feel like I get fluid in my ear canals. So, I only use the humidifier on 1.
Also, depending on your pressure, you might feel some ear pain (at least I do if I raise my Auto to 10)
So, if you feel any ear pain, check your humidifier setting and your pressure setting. In my opinion, it's better to turn the settings down a little than to get ear infections.
