Amara View Longevity
Been getting a lot of poor mask fit warnings. Mask fit can be anywhere from 50% - 80%. Not sure why this suddenly started happening, as I've not changed anything about I put the mask or headgear on. It fits well when I'm dozing off and I generally stay in one place all night so it's not like I'm rolling around. The quality of my therapy has taken a nosedive with the decreasing mask fit numbers. I slept nearly eight hours last night but with 50% mask fit I woke up feeling like I'd barely slept at all.
Anyone experience this? To those who use it, how often do you usually replace the mask itself?

After two months things started going downhill. DME recommended monthly replacement of the cushions.

I usually get at least three months before I start having leaking problems and then change my cushion. Most insurance companies allow a new cushion every month, so that is what the DME is recommending. After six months, I change the whole mask since the head piece is pretty well stretched out by then. When I have a follow up with my doctor next month, I will get a new mask and spare cushion after I find a new DME to work with. Mine lost their Medicare contract on July 1.

These Masks are expensive and should last for longer than a few months.
If you have good insurance that replaces them for you every 3-6 months then that's great for you and you should take them up on it.
I pay for my own masks and take the extra time to make them last and work properly for as long as possible.
The Headgear will stretch out over time and need to be adjusted from time to time. Follow the Manufactures recommendation for making adjustments to stop any leaks your experiencing.

Re: Amara View Longevity
My cushion is over a year old and still doing fine. I have had to adjust the headgear a couple of times. I find that making small -1/8 inch - adjustments and then using the mask two or three nights before making more adjustments works best for me.
I have noticed that I will get no leaks for days and then have leaks for a night or two. I recently discovered that if I pull the two bottom straps down some back near the jaw joint after the mask is inflated that the leaks don't happen. That works for me but may not for someone with a face shape different from mine.

Re: Amara View Longevity
If they made a smaller head gear I might get it to last longer. When I first start off with a new mask, the velcro is almost to the back edge of the bottom and top strap. I have very little room left to allow for stretching. My insurances cover a new mask every six months, so I usually get one mask and one extra cushion every six months.

ClayL, I have found adjusting the lower straps as you stated works for me as well.

I have also found that adjusting the lower strap down further helps stop leaks. Also kind of pushing the top strap a bit further back on my head helps but that strap doesn't seem to stay pushed back during the night so that is of limited use. But the adjustment to the lower strap has made a difference in lessening leaks.

Re: Amara View Longevity
I replaced the cushion after 2 or three months, but then I discovered the lower strap pull-down technique and the moving back of the crown strap. My percentage of time above the leak rate threshold has dropped from about 14% to under 1%, with a lot of nights now at zero leak.
Now I have the leaks under control I have been able to slightly loosen the straps too, so the mask is a lot more comfortable.
I'm hoping the second cushion will last a little longer. I may even try to re-use the first one.
