Exhale causes machine to Hum and vibrate
The last two weeks or so I have not been able to sleep well because of a vibrating or hum coming from my machine
when I exhale. I make sure that the humidifier tank is properly seated, changed my air filters, made sure my mask
and air hose are properly snug and secure. For 6 months my machine was quiet and I slept well with an 8 hour compliance.
I called in to my DME and they said that it was probably my humidifier tank not seated properly but they would also send
me out a new one to try. Still I have the very annoying hum which is keeping me from good rest.
Before I call the insurance company to see what my options are and then talking with the DME again, I would like some
suggestions or ideas of what might be causing this sound. I do weekly cleaning and take care of my machine.
Thanks....

Don't call the insurance company. Take the machine back to the DME - it should still be under warranty. Demand an immediate replacement. If they want to repair it, demand a free loaner while they send yours to be repaired.SmokeChaser426 wrote:Before I call the insurance company to see what my options are and then talking with the DME again, I would like some

Re: Exhale causes machine to Hum and vibrate
Hey Granny,
Thank you for your solution. After reading so many stories of the horrible relationships that others have had with their DME's I
wanted to be prepared with an alternate plan. I called my DME this morning and reviewed my 3 previous calls with them and
they are coming out next Tuesday to replace my machine. I will have to get by with less hours of sleep until then but something
positive to look forward to.
I only wish others had a helpful and considerate DME as I have.

Re: Exhale causes machine to Hum and vibrate
I have a helpful/considerate DME. I can walk in at any time and get service. I don't need an appointment and I don't need to wait for someone to come out. If I need supplies, I can walk in and walk out with my needs. They calculate my co pay and usually I pay them on the spot.SmokeChaser426 wrote:Hey Granny,

... but, they are making you sleep with the humming machine for six more nights. For a necessary medical device, I would be unhappy with their service.SmokeChaser426 wrote:I only wish others had a helpful and considerate DME as I have.

My machine was doing that the other day and it was the mask. The mesh was clogged on my P10. I got out my new mask and all was well.

Re: Exhale causes machine to Hum and vibrate
Well,
I could have gotten a new machine the next day but my schedule did not permit that, my insurance also requires a tech to
come out and set up the new machine, which I then have to reset once the tech leaves because the DME won't make any
changes to pressure unless I get a prescription from my Pulmonoligist. I don't feel it necessary to bother him when I can do
that myself. I am glad there are people that have good relationships with their DME, but reading posts when I want to increase
my knowledge on CPAP therapy there are many that do have issues.
Believe me, I went through a whole list of things that I thought would cause a vibration or hum sound, I have a nasal mask
so I made adjustments to the straps and cushions, broke out a new hose and filter. I was sent a new humidifier tank which
I now use with no positive effect. Troubleshooting the whole deal I felt that it had to be the motor or something internal.
I find this website to be very informative and posters give many ideas to issues even the Snarky remarks are a Hoot and I enjoy
them as much as the educational ones.
Thanks again to all...

Re: Exhale causes machine to Hum and vibrate
Here are a few more questions on this matter?
First, has anything changed, such as your bed, your night table (upon which the CPAP rests), etc.?
Make sure all removable parts (filters, tanks, hoses, modems, etc.) are sitting correctly, and that all doors are closed correctly. Make sure your mask and hose are not clogged. Make sure nothing is under the CPAP, such as a stray piece of paper, paper clip, etc.

Re: Exhale causes machine to Hum and vibrate
Ways to cut down noise in the bedroom... 1. Put mask like a foam mouse pad under the XPAP.
2. Use white sound or rain or nature sounds whatever you like, to mask the noise you don't want to hear. Jim
Sometimes we obsess over little things, making real mountains, out of molehills. Sometimes it comes down to fooling ourselves. I play T.V. all night no ad's allowed, they wake me, some people run a motor (fan). Whatever it takes.

I'd bet dollars to donuts it's not the machine.

Re: Exhale causes machine to Hum and vibrate
Got my new machine yesterday, has a bunch of added features and it is quiet. Good 7+ hours of great sleep last
night. Good to get back to that. DME tech gave me a bunch of stuff he had in his van which was nice.
Thanks to everyone that gave advice of the positive nature and I still get a kick from the snarky ones too.

Re: Exhale causes machine to Hum and vibrate
My machine has loads of other problems with output, but after a while it did the same thing. When I first got it, it was *silent*. After a while, weeks or month or so, it started making a moaning sound when I exhale. Unfortunately, our medical device provider stinks, they provide us almost no support and get nasty when I complained about some serious problems.
I hope you can get yours replaced pronto. But putting something under the machine like a mouse pad is a great help, reduces the noise for me. I put mine under the bed, on wood floor, on a hard foam pad, like a big mouse pad (its not fuzzy, just dense foam), reduces the noise that happens when I exhale a lot. (only now I have to vacuum under the bed more often )

Check the seals on your tank. This can also effect output.michaelanthonyp wrote:My machine has loads of other problems with output, but after a while it did the same thing. When I first got it, it was *silent*. After a while, weeks or month or so, it started making a moaning sound when I exhale. )
