Nasal pillow/nasal mask with chin strap vs full face mask.
My jaw falls open when I go to bed and air leaks out. Is it better to use a chinstrap to keep my mouth closed or get a full face mask? I am afraid that with the full face mask I will have dry mouth, and that I will swallow air and that I will get uncomfortable chipmunk cheeks when the air gets blown into my open mouth.

I would try and chinstrap first and if that doesn't work then you'd have to go to a full face mask.

Some users find that a cervical collar works well to keep their jaw from dropping. Both the collar and strap won't keep air from leaking from your lips but may be enough of a reminder that you learn to keep your mouth closed. During the day practice breathing through your nose with the tip of your tongue just behind your top front teeth. With your tongue positioned this way It blocks the air from the mouth and keeps it moving in the right direction.
Dry mouth can be a problem when you mouth breath and ARE NOT using a Full Face mask. The bigger problem is that you lose therapy when mouth breathing. Sometimes even with a FF mask dry mouth can be a problem and then we move to prevention mode. Before bed I use Orajel For Dry Mouth, and keep Biotene Spray at my bedside, and some people use Xylimelts. Chipmunk cheeks happen when your mouth is closed and air goes into the mouth so a FF Mask would relieve that worry. Now for swallowed air that's more of a airway positioning and pressure problem. Cross that bridge IF you ever come to it. Fix the problems you have and leave the worries until they do happen.

It can be done in one of three ways: Keep the tongue in the proper position, keep the lips sealed by tape or other means, or wear a full face mask. A full face mask eliminates the differential in pressure between mouth and nose which promotes the leaks. (Note: A FFM may eliminate mouth leaks, but might not prevent mouth breathing)

this works best for me if i change out the bands about every 3-4 days. they have a tendency to become stretched out of shape. but popping them in with a load of laundry gets them back into their original shape.
now, to be completely honest, i'm a belt and suspenders type. i use the "scunci" method PLUS a chinstrap PLUS a foam collar. i'm sure someone here will tell me i don't need all of that (hello, chicago granny! ), but it helps get through the night without dry mouth.
oh! i also use xllimelts. i like them over oragel because having a sip of water doesn't wash it away.
