What is best way to sanitize a used Airsense 10

Post by yawnny » Wed Apr 26, 2017 7:09 pm

Is there a particularly effective way to clean a second hand APAP for use as a backup machine? The thought of using a pre-used machine kind of creeps me out, but also, having a spare one is appealing. It would be from a private sale, and I would definitely be trashing any tubing and/or mask--maybe humidifier chamber too. Is there a much danger of catching some misc. microbe from a used device? Thanks for any input.

There is nothing to clean. Only filtered air goes one way through the machine. Change the filter and enjoy the ride.

I'd use something that would kill the germ the previous owner died from! I prefer to buy mine from the guy that was ran over by a train, safer that way. Jim

Have you had an organ/bone marrow transplant recently?
Otherwise, the idea of anything beyond what has already been suggested is just plain silly.
---except the silliness from goofproof, of course!

Silly ! I could have suggested a No Clean 2, to not clean the dirt and germs, but that would have been silly. Jim

If a used machine creeps you out, then you'll never use it. So, buy a new machine that is open box or discounted in some way at an online retailer. There is occasionally a machine listed on Craigslist that is zero hours (never used). I agree with the others that it just blows air and doesn't need sanitizing.

FWIW, here's an option.

I have just bought an AIrsense 10 from Craigslist which was unused and had zero hours on the display. The previous owner who I met face to face said it was unused and it was good to meet the person, get a feel and lic plate of his vehicle if I needed it later on.

I admit I was creeped out at first and had the same concern. Is there a service or a company that does internal cleaning if someone wanted it.

Here's what I did when I got a 2nd hand one from Craigslist.
Replaced with new- filter, long hose, water tub, mask.
wiped outside of machine down with alcohol wipes.

You don't know anything about anything... so much of your post (like most others you've made) is wrong, nonsense and misleading to other newbies.

Of course, we go through our entire lives breathing air that other people have breathed out (airplanes, buses, trains, cars, offices, elevators!) and we eat off of plates using utensils that have been used by other people at every restaurant. New filter, and wash water resevoir with warm soapy water. Warm water bath for the tube. New filter. You're done.

We all breath in ambient air in trains, plains, and automobiles. But....How much of the air around us is directly forced into our body like CPAP machine is designed to do.

Well, looks like I've been over thinking it, as usual. Thank you all for your advice.

It creeps me out a 'little' bit, but I only intend to use it for back up anyway. I'm sure if my regular machine went south for some reason, over a long weekend, the creepy factor would shrink dramatically, and I'd have that puppy humming like a vaporizer at a 420 celebration before you could say "chin strap". I do like goof proofs take on the matter .

How do they sanitize the machines used for sleep studies?
