I thought this was worth sharing with you all.
I have been experimenting over the past few weeks with silicone tape as an alternative to buying mask liners. I had in mind that silicone would offer protection against pressure sores and provide a better seal than a mask liner.
I started out by buying a silicone dressing from a pharmacy, and cutting the sticky part around the dressing into useable sized strips for the bridge of my nose and my cheeks (between nose and mouth where FF Mask contacts). These were the places that I was getting pressure/leak sores.
The results were excellent! No more sores, reduced leak rate, and the tape was easy and painless to remove, even though the adhesion was very good. Furthermore, I could reuse the tape several times before needing to replace with new pieces, I just stuck them to a piece of plastic (aerosol cap) ready for the following night.
I tried another type of silicone tape which gave me the same performance, again I had to cut it into strips. But then I found this UK medical product called 'Siltape' which comes on a roll 2cm (0.8 inches) wide and is perforated about every 2 inches, the perfect size for what I need. Again, the results have been excellent, it costs about £12 per roll but that will last me well over a year because of the reuse.
It also comes in 4cm wide rolls which I thought may be ideal for mouth taping, although I haven't tried this as yet, they use it in surgery for keeping eyelids closed so may possibly be good for the mouth and definitely easier to remove than micropore tape.
Perhaps there is a similar product in your country?
Any thoughts or questions?

A lot of people here use something called moleskin... but I don't know what it's made of, though hate to think it's actually the skin of moles!

Tegaderm dressings would be good for this too, adhesive side attached to the mask.

Any silicone dressing will do, but no, the adhesive side must go on your skin that's the whole point. It stops the mask moving against your skin and causing sores, it also helps to make a better seal.Little Wing wrote:Tegaderm dressings would be good for this too, adhesive side attached to the mask.
It's more convenient if it's on a roll, here's one that someone suggested on another thread if you can't find Siltape.
