Distilled Water Only For Humidifier?

Post by jrfoster » Mon Oct 16, 2006 1:47 pm

I was told to use distilled water in my humidifier. That is no problem here in the US, but I leave for Israel next month and was wondering if I could use plain bottled water for the 2 weeks I am over there?

I don't know why they wouldn't have distilled water over there.

use distilled if you can, it is the most pure you can get and reduces scale on the inside of the tank.

But in a pinch bottled water will work.

I was in Israel a while ago and had no problem getting distilled water in Tel-Aviv.

My CPAP is a F&P HC604 and it's important to use distilled water because the base of the container is made of Aluminum.

I was with a group visiting Israel last year. I wasn't on CPAP at the time, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't find distilled water there. I wouldn't recommend using water directly from the Jordan river.

When I go on trips here in the states I usually fill up a standard water bottle with distilled water. Each evening I fill up my humidifier and pour whatever's left the next morning back into the bottle. That could keep you going for a few days, depending on how much water you normally go through and how long you'll be gone.

Regards,

OCO

Thanks everybody! I think I can find distilled water in Israel also, but we will be moving from Tel Aviv, up north to the Golan Heights, then back to Jerursalem, to small settlements, near the Gaza Strip, etc. This is not a normal tour but a group of Rabbis and Pastors (10 of us in all) traveling Israel to support them. We land in Tel Aviv at 6PM Sunday night, Nov 12th, so I would suspect a store would be open near our hotel so I can fill up.

Just wanted to make sure as this is the first time to take my APAP with me on an overseas trip. But I wlll refrain from using Jordan river water for sure!

Distilled Wate

Post by parker » Mon Oct 16, 2006 3:56 pm

I agree with everyone else here re:You should be able to find distilled water in Irael.

But, soometimes depending on the culture, it is not consdered "water" per se and therefore not sold alonside bottled water isn the groceries stores.

I have found it in some different places overseas e.g. in hardware or automotive stores where it is sold for use in car batteies.

Or in the household department of grocery stores with soap etc. where it is sold for use in steam irons.

Or behind the counter of pharmacies because the purity is regulated and it is in effect a controlled substance.

And as you mentioned, in a pinch you can use tap water until you get home but depending on the length of your trip, you may need to replace your water tank. Which because of the cost of the the water -- or difficulty in obtaining it may in some places actually be the best solution.

Years ago in the instructions for a French steam iron there was a note not to use car battery distilled water bought from local garages. It said that some places made it themselves on site and that it might contain trace amounts of battery acid!
