how much time needed for a sleep study
I have seen many posts asking if they were asleep long enough for a competent evaluation at their sleep study. So how long is enough for the doctors/technicians to really get an idea of your sleep. Is it one sleep cycle? Or is more time necessary??
My insurance accepted 120 minutes-I got 3 hr in the diagnostic and just over 2 hr in the titration. Medicare requires a minimum of 120 minutes. I was leary of the results but xPAP for 8 1/2 months has been right in line with the AI, HI, AHI, and pressure findings.
Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof.....Galbraith's Law
Yup, Medicare does require 2 hours sleep out of 6 hours bedtime. I only slept 42.5 minutes my first titration study and 98 minutes sleep my second titration study but the two combined exceeded the required minimum 2 hours sleep and I received my Resmed S8 Elite, Humidiare 3i and mask in short order. Like w/in 3 hours of getting home from the second titration study the DME was on the phone wanting to make delivery arrangements!
Of course, since I wanted the specific PAP machine and my doctor specifically scripted that machine and it wasn't one they carried it took them an extra 3 days to have it available. The wait was worth it to get what I wanted. I spent 2 nights on the RemStar Plus (w/o data card capability which is what I was insisting on). It was a nice machine, had it had the data card capability. Quiet. Nice size even w/humidifier.
