Another Newbie question - pillows: side sleeper

Post by stoverquill » Mon Nov 13, 2006 3:43 pm

I would like opinions on pillows, etc. for side sleepers. During sleep study I had a really hard time and woke with strap marks that stayed for hours.

Smiles,
Trina

If it's just the strap marks that are the problems... definately go for the padacheek covers... they work well.

Hello stoverquill,

I agree try the padacheek from padacheek.com, when you decide on an interface.

I was going to start a topic about pillows.

Memory Foam pillows: Do you guys think that they are worth it. Why are they recommended? Is is good for a side sleeper.

I like my Nasal Aire II. Does not bother me for side sleeping. I can barely feel it. I know it is there when I breath hard I can hear the noise.
I can do this, I will do this.

The pad-a-cheeks will solve the mask mark problems. I use the hybrid mask and sleep mostly on my side, but can sleep in any position.
I tried the memory foam pillow and found it very uncomfortable. I tried the shapable pillow from target and again found it very uncomfortable. The papillow works great for me. If you sort of let the mask hang off the edge of the pillow, you can sleep in any position.

I bought a pillow from Target about a year ago and it is the best pillow I have ever had. It has a memory form core surrounded by little foam pieces like the ones in their shapeable pillow (I don't know that they're called). It has enough "give" to it so it isn't as hard feeling as a solid memory foam pillow but it does have the memory foam center so it doesn't mash all the way flat. The bad thing is that they don't sell it anymore where I live. It only cost about $20 too. I use the Breeze Nasal Pillows and love them. They're great for side sleeping but not too good if you sleep on your back. I've been trying to find another place that sells a pillow with a memory foam core surrounded by the little foam pieces. If anybody knows of any place that sells a pillow like that, let me know.

the pillow that you like is that the pillow that is memory and says it is soft as dow?

I saw one of those at Walmart but I am not sure what it is.

I was wondering if it is to soft, would the exhaust of the mask make nosie

I am a 100% side sleeper, use a Tempur Pedic "the Neck" pillow and love it, you don't sink way down in it. And doesn't interfere with my ConfortLite 2 nasal pillows. Also have the Tempur Pedic mattress which allows me to sleep on my side all night without problems.

Happy sleeping,
Sharon

I really like the papillow. I only sleep on my side and this is THE pillow for me. http://www.papillow.com I actually found it on eBay a bit cheaper.

Ditto to what Brenda said. I've been using a double-edge PAPillow for over a year now. Love it.

I sleep on my side when ever I can what ever mask I use (usually a UMFF or now a Somnotech Soyala), use a standard memory foam pillow.

You can also take the electric turkey carving knife to any foam pillow.

I don't sleep well on the memory foam pillows - feels like "plastic" and tends to be too firm for me.

How is the PAPpillow in comparison?

The Papillow is like a "regular" pillow -- no memory foam. It's not a totally soft squishy pillow, but it isn't a super firm one either. I am not a fan of the memory foam stuff. The papillow has some give but it also has support.

The papillow is firm but soft. It supports my neck and is shaped so the mask can hang off the side of the pillow without having to 'shape' the pillow with every move. I find it just as comfortable while sleeping on my back and stomach. Your head will not sink down into the pillow much. BUT everyone is different and you dont really know what will work until you try it.

I use a sobokawa pillow and have never had a problem sleeping on my side with my full face mask.
