Re: Use Any Mask with your AirMini
Thank you everyone for your posts. They were very helpful. I purchased a ResMed Air Mini, but I really wanted to use my Philips Respironics DreamWear mask. I have tried the P10 mask it doesn't work well for me.
I purchased an N20 AirMini Setup Pack to get another hose and I purchased a ResMed Inlet Tube with Swivel Assembly for Mirage. The inlet tube has a standard rubber flange on both ends. I took the humidx adapter off the hose and pushed the short inlet tube rubber flange over humidx adapter end of the hose. Unfortunately, there was a very minor leak because the humidx adapter has a few notches around its circumference. However, I was able to use some black electricians tape to wrap around the end. I pulled it very tightly around over the end of the rubber flange and over the humidx adapter and onto the hose. By pulling the tape tight it stretches and conforms to the shape of the flange and hose. The stopped all leaking and doesn't look bad at all. If anyone wants to try to do the same thing, you could use a different color electrician's tape if you wanted.
So for about $75 and everyone's help I was able to make the ResMed Air Mini work for me without being forced to use their proprietary masks. Thank you, thank you!

Re: Use Any Mask with your AirMini
I've been using the AirMini an 18" extension as described above so that I could use my DreamWear mask (which I find much more comfortable than any of the available masks.) I just switched to the 7" Inlet Tube from ResMed. This makes for a much better modification because it is so short. It fits perfectly on the mask end and fits over the HumidX fitting with the HumidX removed. By running the rubber fitting under hot water it was able to expand enough to make an airtight connection over the HumidX fitting without the use of tape or silicon.
It would be great if ResMed would sell a hose with a regular adapter, but this works great as a hack that makes the AirMini a perfect travel machine for me.

Re: Use Any Mask with your AirMini
I bought the AirMini and yes, the machine itself is extremely quiet. Much quieter than my old S8 Escape which I still use. But I wanted something that weighed less than a brick to travel with.
Buying the unit through CPAP.com (they're nearby my house), they threw in the mask that I use, the nasal pillow type. But when I used it is was like listening to a freight train trying to sleep.
It seemed that most of the noise came from the humid-X unit housing that is built into the mask. The noise is the same with and without the humid-X insert.
I read the above suggestion and bought a hose from CPAP.com that had the proprietary AirMini connector on one end and a swivel for the P20 mask on the other. That swivel unscrews and you're left with a small fitting. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... -pack.html
I bought the 18" hose with 2 rubber ends from them also and pushed the fitting into one rubber end. I ordered some sealant but right now it's just pushed in. There's tiny bit of air leakage but nothing major. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/18-inc ... -ends.html
The noise is definitely less. Granted, it still much noisier than the near silence of the S8, but after a couple days I'm getting used to it. I just think of it as a little white noise for sleeping. My wife says she really doesn't notice it. I really like the software too.
The benefit as noted above is that I can use my old nasal pillow mask, which is nicely stretched out to fit my head. I can essentially use any mask I want now. I ordered an aftermarket HME and we'll see if that works. I'm also wondering if it will cut down on any remaining noise.
I'm not sure if I'll give up my S8, since I don't travel that much, but then I'll always have to get used to the noise. I like the small form of the AirMini, and I bought the kit that lets you attach it to the bed frame. I'm putting some felt on it so it doesn't scratch up my nice wood frame, but otherwise it works great. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... ystem.html
If someone has another suggestion for reducing the noise I'd like to hear about it. I saw one site where someone built a muffler, out of an old cream container, but it was way too much work for me.

Whatever the manufacturers fail to do--leave it to the lab rats!

Some day, one may very well RULE THE WORLD!

I did a hack like this too with my existing ResMed tube and air pillow set-up.
Seems to me that the pressure is now much higher now than it was with my home machine and home pillow or with the Mini and the mini pillow.

Did you MEASURE it?
"Seems to me" is too subjective.
Our impressions are affected by all kinds of factors.

Re: Use Any Mask with your AirMini
I also ride dual sport and adventure bikes. One of the main reasons I picked up the air mini. I tried the nasal mask since the Humidex was not available for the full face mask but I can’t handle the nasal mask. Is there a good reason they do not allow the Humidex with the full face mask? I have always used humidity with my S8 so I am trying to do a mod that will give me full face with humidity. Also, what battery setup are you using on your Moto trips?

Re: Use Any Mask with your AirMini
I'm currently using a Resmed N20 mask with my AirMini with the N20 setup kit. The noise coming out of the humidX housing is making more noise than my AirSense 10. I found this thread and was looking at ways of by-passing the humidX housing. I have a 3D printer at home and came up with a quick design for an AirMini tube adaptor to connect my N20 flexible tubing.

Labrats and Makers RULE.!
May I ask what 3D printer do you use?

My 3D printer is an old one from a Kickstarter campaign called "RidigBot". Unfortunately, the original company that made it is no longer in business.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Sun Jul 22, 2018 10:00 pmLabrats and Makers RULE.!

They either fail or get part of a twisted buyout.
Remember the successful Pebble watches? Fitbit bought the people & technology but not the products.

Mine died after 2 months with no warranty due to the buyout.

Or Melon EEG.
That would have been the BEST sleep sensor--plus other goodies for hungry nerdlings.

Out of curiosity, why the different materials?
