Does anyone go to a great Sleep Doctor in New York City?

I am looking for a new sleep Doctor. I have seen one at Mt. Sinai hospital and was thoroughly unimpressed. Thanks in advance.

Are you too far from Dr. Steven Park in the Bronx? I've not seen him, but after reading/viewing his work I would if I lived in NYC.

Not too far. from me. I usually look for someone who specializes in both sleep medicine and pulmonology since I have respiratory problems, but presumably an expert in sleep medicine can be in expert in all sleep-related disorders. Thanks!

Park's primary discipline is ENT, but he also has deep interest in sleep and has a lot of experience helping people with sleep problems too. I've met the man a few times and had a few conversations with him after lectures and presentations. I respect him. A lot.

For me, it doesn't matter much who the actual sleep doc is for the average joe, if all you want is to get qualified to try PAP. The overall nature of the lab/center itself is more important as far as your personal comfort being there, if you are going to be getting an overnight in-lab PSG diagnostic test and titration. And these days, an office with experience with your form of insurance can be important.

Really, all the sleep doc does is confirm the data that makes the diagnosis and then sign off on the Rx for the machine, unless there are rare complications from comorbidities. It's a pretty sweet gig for the doc, all in all. I had more interaction with my sleep-study tech dude than I had with my doc, which was fine. And if you are going to take your own therapy in hand for optimizing pressure(s), you can do a better job over time than any sleep doc alone with that sort of thing anyway.

The main thing I wanted in a sleep doc was a guy/gal who would write what I asked him/her to write down in order for that to force a DME to give me what I needed. After that, I could take it from there.

A good idea, especially if your doctor does not have the online presense of Dr Park.
I noted that in my cancer support group, we were strongly asked not to mention any of our physicians by name.

Most of us usually want to keep the good ones a secret.
The busiest doctors are not the best ones.
We will happily spread the truth about the quacks,, though. (While being careful to avoid litigation)

I got lucky and just found and went to a good one yesterday. Doing a titration tonight--things are moving fast!
