Changing pressure setting DreamStation

Post by Rainmom177 » Tue Aug 01, 2017 1:55 pm

Hi, I'm sure there are other posts about this, but I couldn't find them. Anyone know how I can change my pressure setting on my Dream Station without my doctor? I'd simply like the bump the minimum pressure up from 5 to 6.

Press and hold the ramp button and "on" button (round dial on front) at the same time for several seconds. The display will change as it goes into provider mode. From there, use the round dial to scroll through the settings. Under "therapy," you will find minimum pressure. Press the round dial to go into edit mode, then turn the dial to your desired setting.

You're welcome! I love my DreamStation, and I have adjusted the pressure. I keep a log of the changes (what, when, etc.) and how they affect my numbers. It helps me figure out what works.

Good thinking. I am trying some record-keeping as well.
So, now that I've bumped it up a little (my attempt to fit mask better so leaks that happen when pressure goes up will lessen), are there any drawbacks to starting at a higher pressure that I should be aware of? I realize 6 isn't very high, but just curious if it's likely to feel different. I just tried it out for 5 minutes and it didn't seem much different.

When you have time you can go here and request the clinical/provider manual for your machine.
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
Not only does it explain how to get to that secret setup menu but it also has some other very useful information about your machine that isn't included in the user manual.
Instructions on how to request via email are about 2/3 down the page. I think it's a combo manual (more than one DreamStation model) but it's fairly easy to figure out what goes with which model. How to get to the setup menu area is the same on all the DreamStation machines.

No drawbacks going from 5 to 6 starting out that I can think of and 1 cm won't feel much different...now 3 or 4 might.
You've got an auto machine if I remember right and it's already going higher than 6 once you go to sleep anyway.

Great, thank you so much. I will check that out.
Yes, my range was set at 5-15. Don't think it's gone much above 8 or 9 at this point. This will be good to try.

Pugsy knows a LOT more than I do, and you can trust her advice.

The other thing I learned is that you shouldn't make frequent changes, and keep it to changing only one thing at a time. Give it at least a few days and then look at the averages.

No problem. I wouldn't have even noticed if you hadn't drawn attention to it.

Yes, I usually suggest that if someone makes a change in something that they try to stick with it for a few days if at all possible.
The exception would be if that change created a problem of some sort or if it was blatantly obvious from the data that more changes were needed and in that case I wouldn't hang around very long at the setting. If it's real obvious that a lot more pressure is needed there's no sense in taking a month to get there. In this situation though a small change is likely all that is needed and the machine reportedly isn't wanting to go very high anyway.

I once made a change in the AFlex setting and it was such a disaster that I immediately aborted that experiment. I wasn't about to risk having a second disaster. One night was all it took for me to learn that lesson.
