Re: High pitched whistling noise driving me crazy.
I'd like to add a thumbs up to the post about water cloging up the exaust ports and causing them to whistle...
I have had this exact same problem off and on for years when I get a lot of mask humidity. Try tapping the mask hard with your finger around the edge of the exaust ports... sometimes this will break any surface tension holding the water in the exhaust ports and stop the noise, or I fix mine by taking the quick release off my mask sticking my thumb into the air intake to block it and keep the mask sealed to my face while I forcefully blow hard into my mask. This extra pressure usualy blows out the water stuck in the tiny exaust ports and makes the high pitch wistle/whine noise go away. I then reconnect my mask and go back to sleep.
My biggest problem sometimes "as it bothers my wife" is mask leaking between my nose and cheek bones... it makes an anoying squeaky noise like when you used to blow on a fresh blade of grass as a kid... this sometimes wakes up my Wife were she'll gently elbow or push me with the phrase "Your whistling again!"
She's really good natured about it.
Wish you luck in determining the source of the noise.

Gryphon

A good mask liner will reduce the number of bruises you mysteriously aquire during your sleep...Gryphon wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 2:49 pmMy biggest problem sometimes "as it bothers my wife" is mask leaking between my nose and cheek bones... it makes an anoying squeaky noise like when you used to blow on a fresh blade of grass as a kid... this sometimes wakes up my Wife were she'll gently elbow or push me with the phrase "Your whistling again!"

Re: High pitched whistling noise driving me crazy.
Ya... any sort of change in pressure could explain the change in the noise, pitch of the whistle... but it wouldn't explain the source of the noise in the first place.palerider wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 2:17 pmBest to just ignore the above post.D.H. wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 10:42 amThere is a feature on most never CPAPs that slightly reduces the pressure when exhaling. Pressure changes from the machine during normal operations wouldn't in an of it self cause any more sound then if it was off. So disabling that sort of setting shouldn't make and noticable difference other then maybe making the noise you hear more boring.
I guess if your hearing was ultra sensitive you could hear differences in noise with pressure changes vs none... but let's be honest. It's a medical machine made by humans in this century, not a magic box or device sent back in time from a star trek episode.
There is going to be some sound. Use your intuition and imagination with working out the source of any noises that bother your sleep. If it is infact the machine as others have suggested try to insulate the machine somehow, mouse pads work great under the machine to dampen any micro vibrations that can resonate into furniture like a night stand.
Try wrapping your machine (albeit temporarily) in a thick quilt making sure not to block the air intake and see if the noise goes away or diminishes.
Notice if the noise happens with your mask on vs off... see if the noise is louder if you put your fingers in your ears vs not... it could be a sound coming from the machine that is resonating inside the airway from the machine...
Good luck with figuring it out.
Take care,
Gryphon

Re: High pitched whistling noise driving me crazy.
I hear ya. I did a few things. Try to isolate the sound. With my machine, i can disconnect my tank, so i did that first and did a direct hose to machine connection. I put my mask on with the room silent. Still had the whistle when inhaled. I was able to isolate the noise right to the machine. It was not the hose or the mask. I could hear it perfectly with my ear right up to the machine and it was definitely inside the machine. The noise was nowhere near where the tube connects. I like what was suggested regarding removing the fine filter. I am going to try that when i get home. Just sitting in the airport right now.y08hci0299 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2017 4:34 pmI have this high pitched whistling when I turn on my cpap that is ruining my sleep. The volume and pitch changes when I breathe in vs when I breathe out and it goes away the moment I turn the machine off so I definitely know that it's due to cpap. It's either from the machine itself or the hose. It is very faint, but still audible enough to keep me awake, almost like a loud dog whistle. I have tested both my mask and my hose for leaks(I filled them up with water and saw if any water streamed out through any possible holes) and can confirm that both of them are leak free. The whistling comes and goes it isn't a constant, but it has been popping up here and there. I have only had my machine(philips dreamstation bipap auto) since march this year and have had about 2.5 months usage on it. Is that just the sound of air moving through the hose? I also recently threw away my disposable filter and have not gotten it replaced yet so I only have the reusable pollen filter put in. pease help, I am at my wit's end.

Re: High pitched whistling noise driving me crazy.
Put some KY water based lubricant on the silicone gaskets in the humidifier chamber. This works on both the Resmed S10 and Dreamstation. The fix lasts a couple months and is repeatable.

There's no such thing as a "Resmed S10"... not on the machine, not on the box, not on the website.
