Glands in neck jaw and cpap
Glands in neck jaw and cpap
So, I started my cpap journey about easter. Im using an air sense 10. I started having sore glands about a month ago. Went to Dr and gland specialist and had a battery of tests and bloodwork, etc. All normal. Their position is, its not anything bad or serious, but they don’t know what it is.
I was was sharing my experience with my buddy and he said using his cpap with humidity did the exact same thing to him. So he stopped using humidity and it went away.
So I’ve tried my machine for about a week with no humidity and it got a lot better immediately. But not quite gone.
Does this make sense to ya’ll? Can / does the full face mask and cpap effect someone this way? Is this something that you have heard of?
Thanks!

No, but if it helps for you, what's the downside. Jim

As long as it gets better, it's all good.
We can not always understand why--not even doctors do;
but when something works, go for it.

Re: Glands in neck jaw and cpap
Just to offer some reassurance..
My son had some swollen glands that were quite pronounced. Saw the doctor. They were nothing to be alarmed about, it just happens sometimes (but I'm sure glad he had them checked out because it looked alarming). But the reason I am writing is to mention the timing of it - they took about 4-6 weeks to go away.
Looking at your story, maybe the timing is similar to yours. It could just be a coincidence that it cleared up when you stopped the humidity. You could try starting it again and see if the sore glands come back.

Hi, I don't know your doctor - he may have proven himself to be terrifically smart in the past, and may have been correct re your son's problems, but to me it sure sounds like your son had mono (nucleosis) and it wasn't diagnosed... did he have a spot test done? I speak from personal experience as a patient, so know what it can be like.

I don't remember now what tests were done. Doesn't mono have other symptoms too, like being tired? My son only had the swollen glands. It was really weird, they looked like marbles. (frankly I was afraid it was cancer or something) But the doctor did do tests which were all negative. Just don't remember if mono was one of the things tested for.
Re: Glands in neck jaw and cpap
Ya, tested negative for mono too

How often do they test for lyme disease?
Word is it's highly under-diagnosed.

I heard that too chunkyfrog. So, I got tested for that one too!
I read its pretty unpleasant.

Re: Glands in neck jaw and cpap
Hi, I did an internet search and found this thread. I see this was a couple of years ago, but was curious as to the outcome. My glands in my neck and jawline have also been swollen since using CPAP for a couple years now. Same thing, doc visits, tests...all show no problems. I quit using the humidifier a couple weeks ago, and it helped for a few days, but the swollen glands are back.

I suspect he visits, but does not comment much.
The problem must have resolved, likely with no clue why.

Re: Glands in neck jaw and cpap
Unfortunately there are a few really serious blood problems that start out with glandular enlargement - please see your doctor and don't assume it's all about Cpap (or humidity).
Re: Glands in neck jaw and cpap
Thanks for the reply. I’ve had 3 blood tests over 2 years, all normal. Had a ultrasound on my neck, tissue normal. Doc says don’t worry about it. I hate to try and go off of CPAP for a spell to see if it goes away.

Re: Glands in neck jaw and cpap
Don't.
It is likely to be something else.
Cpap does not cause inflammation.
Your doctor simply does not know, and he does not care to look harder.
You need to be a major pest to make him care enough to try to find the cause.
Or get a different doctor.
Sometimes a new pair of eyes is all that is needed.
My mother in law and I both had doctors that failed to identify serious conditions when BOOM,
another provider knew in a minute what the problem was.
