Noisy Dream Station GO
Noisy Dream Station GO
I use the ResMed 10 with a Philips Dreamwear Nasal mask. It is almost completely silent. I recently purchased a Dream Station Go to use when traveling. I find it is very noisy; the inhalation and exhalation sounds like Darth Vader. I have tried all the adjustments possible but to no avail. The folks at TheCPAPShop can't answer my question either. And, now I have a very expensive non-returnable device. Any suggestions?
Re: Noisy Dream Station GO
I posted this in the other thread where you expressed your displeasure with the noise level from the DreamStation Go.
It's a known issue with most of the tiny travel machines. Sorry, don't know any miracle fixes for it. Some people get used to it....some people it doesn't really bother them. For some people it is a deal breaker though and one of the primary reasons I haven't ever wanted to try one of those tiny travel machines. To get tiny they had to reduce sound buffering material and the end result is simply more breathing noise and more machine noise.

Re: Noisy Dream Station GO
First, full disclosure: I haven't used the Dreamstation Go or seen its hose.
If you think there's any possibility the noise might relate to the hose, it could well be worth changing it. To get the same amount of air to you, it has to move faster through the 12mm Dreamstation Go hose than the common 15mm hoses -- and so is likely to generate more hose-induced noise. Of the two I've tried, ResMed's slimline 15mm hose is quieter to me than the lighter-weight Respironics standard 15mm slimline hose. Would love to hear what you find if you try this!

Re: Noisy Dream Station GO
New to board and to using a Dreamstation Go. My wife and I used the regular Dreamstation for about 2 weeks with good results. We have several 3-4 week trips planned for the near future and so we just got a Dreamstation Go . We both noticed a marked increase in noisy breathing. I set it to the correct nasal pillows setting.. no chance . I changed to tubing to 15 mm from 12 mm .. no change. I put it in the A-flex mode .. no change. Any suggestions or is this just how it will be ?? Thanks
Re: Noisy Dream Station GO
Hi- I have the Dreamstation GO as my travel machine. I'd just like to add my 2 cents worth- I found it to be much louder than my Resmed air sense 10 auto. Definitely the Darth Vadar inhale and exhale noise. I use a fan to drown it out with white noise.

Re: Noisy Dream Station GO
I think that the "travel" units are noisier in general. There's just less room for sound-proofing material. Also, they don't have humidifiers. Thus, I travel with my "regular" CPAP.
Re: Noisy Dream Station GO
I use a dreamstation go 2-3 nights a week as I travel for work the hose is noisier I seem to have adjusted to it but I don’t hear well either. You can hear the air moving through the smaller hose but I actually do better with the smaller lighter hose as it’s doesnt seem to displace my mask as easily. I move a lot at night.
Re: Noisy Dream Station GO
Hi!
I use Dreamstation at home and Go when I travel.
I have problems with Go. Mostly, because I can’t adopt to use new small Philips nasal mask. But noise is acceptable. Much worse than home machine.
Lately I found out that when I try to use my Resmed Quattro Fx Full Face Mask the ammount of air pumping trough gets much higher. That is why Go becomes loud. The noise is comming trough the pipe and changing the pipe does not change a lot.
So I still don’t know how to use it. I only use it for now wit combination of in-ear ANC (active noise cancelation) headsets.

Re: Noisy Dream Station GO
buy a white noise machine and/or earplugs. or just return the dreamstation and use your full size resmed. it's not that big or heavy, i don't see a need at all to use a mini machine.

Re: Noisy Dream Station GO
I just got a Dreamstation GO with humidifier and have been using it for 3 nights. I use a fixed CPAP setting of 7 with a ramp starting at 4. I use Swift FX Nasal Pillow w/Bella Loops.
I've been using the 12mm hose that came with it. I find it's extremely quiet at the mask (just like my full size System One) but can hear the fan noise when I breathe in/out on the machine. It's right next to me on my platform bed 9 inches below the mattress and in-between the matress and the nightstand. I simply placed a face towel on the top, not blocking the intake and found that it muffled the machine sound a bit. But honestly, even without the towel I would be fine.
I'm only trying to find a way to make the machine quieter because I sometimes travel with my kids and/or sister. If you have only a nightstand in a hotel room in-between the 2 beds then I would not want that fan noise to wake someone up.
Since you're hearing noise at the mask have you tried the Q-tube muffler?

Re: Noisy Dream Station GO
I have recently purchased and started using the DreamStation for the house and the DreamStation Go while traveling. I did a little testing while at the house with the Go and found that without the humidifier there is more noise through the hose than with. When I tried it at the house without the humidifier it was louder, I guess Darth Vader sounding with breathing but I was still able to sleep. Not sure how loud it was in the room, I didn’t try it with the wife in the room. I think it was just louder through the hose.
I also have the battery so my next test session at home will be on battery, humidifier connected and filled but off (I hope I can do that) and see if that helps with the noise in the hose.
That’s all the information I can share with you about the Go. I do love the machine, I no longer have to carry a separate bag for my travel APAP machine, it all fits into my carryon.
Good luck.

Re: Noisy Dream Station GO
I have just tested.
Dreamstation Go makes the most noise when you inhale, because a lot of air must go into the machine.
I found out, that usig 22mm tube reduces noise compare to original 12mm, because tube is like a buffer littlebit.
Also I found out, that using DreamWear Gel Pillows, noise is very low, because very few air has to go into the mask, compare to Quatro Fx, where much more air needs to change.
I used dB noise app on my phone to detect differences.
Problem for me is that I feel a lot of resistance breathing with DreamWear Gel Pillows. It is simply too hard for me. So I use Quatro Fx.
Ineed to find somekind of silencer to mount before filter. It would help a lot.
