respironics remstar servicing required

Post by craigclive » Fri Nov 17, 2017 12:44 pm

I had posted this before but didn't get any responses. I have a Respironics Remstar cpap I use for traveling. Last trip I received a message "servicing required" and the machine shut off. I could not get it to work.

I have contacted a repair company about my issue and they responded as follows:

"Service required" error code means your CPAP needs to be sent in for repair or replacement, if it is still under warranty. The code usually means a fatal error.

Is this true? I noted on their website that there is a $100 deposit which can be used for a new machine.

Thanks,
Craig

You haven't posted enough info to get a answer. Like who did you contact?? How many hours are on the machine, when did you buy it. And please use the same post not starting a new one over. It may be a better deal to get a new unit. Jim

I inherited a remstar pro.
Right! That's like saying "I have a Ford and the "Check Engine Light" came on in the dash."

You haven't told us which generation of "RemStar Pro" you have. They've used that model designation in almost every generation they've made. It's likely to be one of the following.
Is it a "M Series", a "System One 50 Series" or a "System One 60 Series"?
It was more prevalent in the M Series machines.

Which repair shop did you contact?

That message has been noted in these forum pages for quite a few years, so some additional information would help.
The company you contacted (if they're reputable) should have been able to give you some indication of what the nature of the problem is and a range of costs to fix it.

The dollar amount mentioned is probably normal.

I had one that set some error code and all I did was unplug it, let it sit for a minute.
This cleared the error and I used it another 6 months till I got a new machine.

The cpap is a Remstar Auto A-Flex. Usage hours are 1066.5 The device is about 2 years old. I inherited it brand new from a relative who died before using the machine.

I contacted the following:
Respshop
9215 151st Ave NE
Redmond, WA, 98052

Help!!!

First thing to note is how much a new machine will cost. From Respironics, I suspect it will be EXPENSIVE. You can find a suitable replacement for $400 (although you'll have to program it yourself). I posted such a deal recently on here.

You might want to look at Acbio.com who repair lots and lots of machines.

Craig did you do what I recommended on your other post about this? If a unit seats a while the blower sometimes it gets stuck. If there was high humidity when it was last used the blower sometimes gets stuck. If you spin the blower a little it "might" start working. I see this a lot with error codes 20, 22, 24, & 30. Also Respironics self measures the ohms of the blower, if the ohms are out of range it will throw a code (dirt, rust, moisture). 1000hrs is low, so this may work for you, give it a spin.
