Received CPAP machine from Apria with 699 hours on it!
Received CPAP machine from Apria with 699 hours on it!
I am new to CPAP, and I received my CPAP device a few days ago. I have not used the machine yet as Apria also sent me the wrong type of mask, so I am waiting for that to arrive.
I was going through the manual and controls and see there are 699 hours recorded on under run time! It is my understanding that data can be erased but not the run time hours.
My understanding of how my insurance works is they rent the machine for 3 months to see if I am compliant, and then they buy it and I own it. Has anyone else had experience with Apria? After three months do they send me a new, prmemnet device or are they going to try to get me to keep this one?
So before i call Apria to complain ... are they allowed to send out used equipment?
Wha points can I raise to get them to send me new machine?
Thanks for any advice any one can offer.

Apria will screw you...Ask..If after 3 months if they will give you a Brand New Machine? Be sure the machine is Data Capable. You want a ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset or a Dreamstation Auto.bdcs64 wrote:I am new to CPAP, and I received my CPAP device a few days ago. Report this to your insurance company. If they are paying for a zero hour machine, they will want to know yours is used. Is Apria your only option for DME supplier? I tried to deal with them, but they wouldn't even return my calls. You might be better off switching to someone else for your supplies.

More important is which model they gave you. Which model did they give you?bdcs64 wrote:see there are 699 hours recorded on under run time!
You might not know that many people rent CPAPs, then drop out and return them. If DMEs aren't allowed to rent these again, it drives up the cost to the industry and the cost to us. So, yes, it's a good thing that DMEs can rent low-hour, used machines.bdcs64 wrote:So before i call Apria to complain ... are they allowed to send out used equipment?
Yes, I would ask for a new one after the rental period. The one he has been using should not go to waste - Apria can rent it again.LSAT wrote:If after 3 months if they will give you a Brand New Machine?

Thank you for the feedback.
I read enough in these forums to know to ask my doctor to write my prescription for a specific machine, so that I wouldn't have to argue with DME about what model I would receive, and I decided on the Resmed AirSense 10 AutoSet.
I have been living undiagnosed for many years and am looking forward to the benefits of CPAP!
Has any one dealt with Apria and gotten them to give a 0 hour runtime machine, and if so, how did they approached it?
Thanks for any advise any one can offer!

Send it back! You are entitled to a new machine. Do not let them get by with foisting a used machine off on you.

Not necessarily true. That's the problem. Your insurance company is paying for a RENTAL and rentals are not required to be used. Rent to own? That's a different story. You need to find out if your insurance company demands a brand new machine or one that has some hours on it. In my case, I checked the machine before bringing it home. After the fact, it depends on what you signed. Just letting you know. BUT, the squeaky wheel usually works - arguing with them that you expected a NEW machine not a used one and they can take it back and give you a new machine because that is what you are paying for (you paid for the insurance).Cardsfan wrote:Report this to your insurance company. CALL your insurance company and ask if they are paying for a brand new machine for you or if a used machine is acceptable, since ultimately they will be paying the full (contracted) price for a machine. My guess is that they expect to pay for a NEW machine, not a used machine. You might ask them to intervene or provide you with a written policy to show to Crapria.
Even if they don't have a policy, you can return it to Crapria and state that you will only accept a new machine. However, I would make sure that there's another vendor you can use with your insurance in case Crapria digs in their heels and refuses.
There's are reason they are called Crapria.

Re: Received CPAP machine from Apria with 699 hours on it!
After getting run round from Apria overseas-outsourced customer service , I called my insurance company, and they called Apria and they immediately agreed to send me a machine with 0 run hours.
It took them a few days to call me back and arrange delivery, but I finally received replacement today!
Thanks to everyone who replied and offered advise/knowledge of how to deal with DME, and as well as all the other helpful posts in general in these forums.

Re: Received CPAP machine from Apria with 699 hours on it!
I realize I'm late on this thread, but my insurance (Tricare) covered a replacement machine for me (I've been on one for years) and the clinic sent it to Apria. I received a rental machine with over 2,000 hours on it. I only discovered this a couple of weeks ago and I've had it since September. Thankfully I don't get supplies from them (I get them from a supply closet at the VA hospital). Since I'm a military retiree, I'm going to see if I can get the VA to get me a new machine since it wouldn't have anything to do with insurance. Apria is shady.

You are still doing the rent to own for the machine. Send it back, and have your doctor send your prescription to militarycpap.com (optigen.com). They specialize in military and retired military personnel. We got my wife's machine from them. They will deliver the machine right to your house and set the prescribed pressures for you right then. Her machine was still in the sealed factory box when they brought it to the house.
