Brand new ResMed S9 Autoset from CPAP.com

Post by Bucco » Wed Jan 31, 2018 2:30 pm

Our host, CPAP.com, is offering new ResMed S9 Autoset machines for $779 (including humidifier). I was surprised to see them available on their website (they were discontinued a while back), so I called them, and they said they were able to get 16 brand new machines. So, if anyone is wanting to get one, this will probably be your last opportunity. For those of us who prefer it to the AirSense 10, I suggest you act fast, as I doubt this limited number of machines will last very long.

I bought one on Craigslist for $200 last year. It had only 12 run hours. I will use it as my replacement when my current S9 poops out.

What would be the point to buy one now at such price?

The latest Resmed model is better, and many accessories are the same.

Not sure that I'd totally agree with better. Yes, the Airsense has a smaller footprint and a different humidifier. But from what I can gather the way the machine operates is just the same as the S9, including the algorithm. The main difference is price and cosmetic appearance. Everything the Airsense can do the S9 also does in exactly the same fashion.

As the A10 is newer, I am not sure what would be the point of buying a much older model for such high price.

In term of functionality, you assume the A10 algorithm is the exact same as the S9, but I doubt it. Surely, Resmed would have improved on its algorithm after several years. Also, the A10 autoset has got more settings that the S9 autoset.

If you can find an S9 autoset for $400, then great, but for $770, it would just get the latest Resmed model.

I used an S9 for many years and have used a Airsence for maybe a year now. The Airsence is an excellent machine, but (always a but :D) I am of the school that newer is not necessarily the better. I know there may be future machines that will far surpass the S9, but until they make one that'll reach out and scratch my butt, I'll stay with the S9. I wish I could buy 4 or 5 S9's and die a happy man! wait.... after counting, maybe more like 6 or 7!
