Any man here that choose AirSense for Her?
Any man here that choose AirSense for Her?
Well, recently I was considering if I should really buy the AirSense AutoSet For Her insted of the default AutoSet version. I know the difference between the two algorithms, but not much about how they can really benefit (even women). The consensus is that women has some pattern differences while breathing, therefore a difrerent algorithm could improve the treatment. Some people say that this algorithm could benefit men too, but I don't recall of any specific case. Here in Brazil the two versions are not that contrastant in price, but I could get the default version for a few bucks less. So, are there men here who really got better treatment results with the For Her algorithm? And how did you compare that? Thanks!

I did. It was less expensive at the time when I was buying, and there didn't seem to be any downside since the "for her" algorithm is optional.

They both retail for the same price so you are getting the extra algorithm free. Unless you parade your friends through your bedroom, no one should know or care that you have leaves on your CPAP,lucas7bm wrote:Well, recently I was considering if I should really buy the AirSense AutoSet For Her insted of the default AutoSet version. Well, actually they should be, but I can get the default version for a few bucks less - probably because it sells more and has more competition in the market.LSAT wrote:They both retail for the same price so you are getting the extra algorithm free. Store A: Default version for X price (best price).
Store B: Default version for X and For Her version for a little more than X.
I honestly don't care for flowers or LED colors, it takes a very fragile masculinity for that
All I'm asking is if there is a considerable probability that the FH algorithm will help me, which could make the extra-price worthwhile.

Re: Any man here that choose AirSense for Her?
It's not FLOWERS...it's LEAVES.
And it's white with gray leaves vs black or silver/gray.
Now the prior S9 "for Her" models with ugly flowers and a horrible shade of pink...I am not sure I would have wanted to look at that myself but I can't see it in the dark and I don't have many people strolling through the bedroom to see it.
As to this question
I have this machine and I have used both algorithms and I am female and to be honest...I can't tell that it feels any different with either while awake.
What I do like about the for Her algorithm is if I happen to have 2 OAs within a minute the machine resets the minimum pressure so I don't go down so low and thus I have a better chance of the 2 OAs within a minute not happening again. So far it has worked well. I rather like it that it does that for me. Means I don't have to use the higher pressure all night just to prevent some weird little clustering because it doesn't happen every night anyway.
That's really the only difference that I can tell in the two algorithms. I do know one person that the for Her algorithm didn't do a good job preventing the airway collapse..and she was female. So go figure that one. She does better on the other regular algorithm.
Would not having that special algorithm be a huge problem for anyone...I seriously doubt it. There might be a few outliers who it might make a huge difference (both male and female) but I think most people would do well with the regular algorithm.
I always like to have as many choices as possible...just in case.
And I always think it is better to have something and not need it than need it and not have it.
It's your choice...we can't make that decision for you.
But I can tell you this...there's a good chance if you get the regular autoset that you will be bitten by the "what if" bug. What if I used that other algorithm...what if it let me feel better?
You know how I know about the "what if bug"....because it has bitten me several times and why I have tried so many different things.

My crystal ball is broken so I have no idea how much of a probability the the "for Her" algorithm would be a deal maker or breaker for you.lucas7bm wrote:All I'm asking is if there is a considerable probability that the FH algorithm will help me, which could make the extra-price worthwhile.

Re: Any man here that choose AirSense for Her?
Well, I'm actually considering this too, but the AutoSet is probably the best machine that I could get and I would be so much bugged if I ended up with a DreamStation or, far worse, a cheap not-APAP machine. So, some male opinions on the algorithm could help me decide if it's worth the price difference (since I'm gonna pay for the whole thing and it's already gonna be a little expensive, it's time to think a little about money saving). The price difference, for example, could buy another pair of pillows for the P10 - and pillows here are WAY more expensive than in the US. Something like $40.Pugsy wrote:there's a good chance if you get the regular autoset that you will be bitten by the "what if" bug. What if I used that other algorithm...what if it let me feel better?

Not many male forum members here using the For Her algorithm to draw from their experience. You have a very limited database to draw from.
Heck, not all that many female forum members using it.

I specifically requested the for Her model.
All it cost me was an extra month of waiting.

The best side-by-side comparison of S10 and S10 For Her algorithms that I've personally seen is in the first two columns of Table 2 at the following location:
https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... ogy_update
One notable difference, to me anyway, is that the chart says that the S10 algorithm takes only 20 minutes to decrease to minimum pressure after flow limitations whereas the S10 For Her algorithm will take an hour to do so--assuming, of course, that I am reading that chart correctly and that the chart itself is correct.

To me, that means that any patient, male or female, who tends toward the hyper-sensitive, arousal-prone condition of the UARS-ish-OSA phenotype has the potential to do better with the For Her algorithm, since some pressure changes may be more gentle/gradual. That is my personal opinion as a user, not a pro.ResMed AutoSet . . . has faster decreases in the absence of flow limitation and has a higher rate of pressure change to all responses (apnea, snore, and flow limitation) than AutoSet for Her.

This article is really helpful, JNK, thank you! I'm gonna read it's details soon, but the chart was already very helpful.jnk... wrote:The best side-by-side comparison of S10 and S10 For Her algorithms that I've personally seen is in the first two columns of Table 2 at the following location:

It's been a while since I don't record anything, but as soon as a get my CPAP and start my treatment, my next focus will be probably recording my own stuff. I'll make sure to remember to send to you and ask your opinion!
