Airsense 10 autoset battery question

Post by wglanville » Tue Feb 27, 2018 9:03 pm

I'm taking a trip to Canada this June. Last year I was able to stay in the main cabin and had access to electricity. This year, I'm in a cabin with no outlets. I will be able to charge a battery during the day, however.

I have an airsense 10 autoset. It averages a pressure of 15-17 (high I know). I'm fine with the humidifier being off for the week, but with that high of output, I'm worried about a battery lasting the entire night. Am I crazy?

I've read several forums already, but would like some specific advise on my question. Weight is an issue even more than price. I don't want to spend $500, but anything under $300 is acceptable. Will the battery below work fine for my situation? Any better options that are lighter weight than a U1 AGM battery?

I have Medistrom Pilot - 24 battery; available on Amazon for $329; good for at least 2 nights You can gang this up with another for $199 which isn't a stand-alone setup for a twin pack that goes 4 nights. You'll see these sold separately on Amazon or as a twin-pack for $495.

Folks have had problems not getting thru a single night with one battery if they don't do the following:

1. Turn off humidifier (you still have to have your empty water tray in the device for it to run)
2. Turn off heated air tube function
3. Put the device in airplane mode, so it isn't constantly trying to send update data

If you do the above, you'll get two nights+ out of one charge and the compromise is fine for camping, etc. An LED light setup shows you how your charge is doing after the first night.

You can get a car charger for the batter for another $50+

You are not crazy at all. At least not crazier than the rest of us here.
I have an Airsense 10 Autoset and I wanted to be prepared for power outages. I bought the Resmed DC power supply from our sponsor, an 100W solar array system and a 35WH AGM battery from Harbor Freight. The battery weighs about 20 lb but has a handle.

If you have some way of charging the 12 volt battery you do not need the solar panels. I wanted the battery to potentially last multiple days in case there were charging issues.

Power Supply: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... hines.html
Solar panels: https://www.harborfreight.com/100-watt- ... 63585.html
Battery: https://www.harborfreight.com/12-volt-3 ... 68680.html

I have not needed to use it, but I tested the battery for a couple of nights without recharging. I ran with humidity set off and a slimline (non-heated) hose. If you only have a heated hose, I believe you can turn the heat off.

So would this battery below last me at least one night? I don't have a heated tube, won't use the humidifier, and will turn it on airplane mode. Plus, I can recharge it daily. I just want to make certain it'll last a full night before I buy.

BiXPower 159 Watt-hour (Wh) Super High Capacity Rechargeable Battery. Here's the link https://www.bixpower.com/product-p/bat-cp170-s10.htm It's $250 and it already has the 24v converter that I'd need for the airsense 10.

I do like its less weight and more compact size than a regular agm battery, even though it is more of an expensive set up.

Or is there something similar that people have found to work better in this price range, that's not a regular car/motorcycle type battery.

Looking at the ResMed Battery Guide,
https://www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents ... lo_eng.pdf
it appears that you will use about 1.3 Amps at 12V, or 1.3x12x8 = 124 Watt-hours in an 8 hour night. This is within you 159 WH battery's spec, but not a large margin. Usually, these batteries are spec'd conservatively, so I would expect it to work for several years before the normal wear drops the battery down below the limit. Unfortunately, this battery is above the airline limit, so you might have an issue, though I haven't heard of anyone getting stopped, but you're not likely to see any larger lithium packs other than those designed for car camping. Some airlines allow you to carry up to 160 Watt-hours, so that is probably the target for this battery.

Also, you'll need a full charge cycle, I might guess at least 5 hours, to top off the battery.

So then a 35ah battery would last a couple nights? (1.3 amps x 8 hours = 10.4 amps used per night?)

Yes, but Lithium (as opposed to lead-acid AGM) is more forgiving of very deep discharge. You don't want to drain lithium cells down to zero, but the pump (or hopefully the battery) would probably turn off before damage is done. If you take lead-acid below 20% you're taking life off the cell. If an AGM is to be used daily, you want to keep it above 50% for maximum life.

Still, a 35AH battery should cover two nights.

Thanks. I had not seen that Resmed battery guide when I was researching my system.
