Has anyone used Rotech Healthcare as their DME supplier?

Post by LookingUp! » Thu Jun 21, 2018 9:07 pm

Sometime over the next month I'll be getting a BiPap machine. I just had my sleep study a few days ago and know that I need a BiPap machine.

My insurance has given me the choice of Apria or Rotech Healthcare. I've heard of Apria but not Rotech. Does anyone have any experience with Rotech?

Thanks

I use them. They have some deal with a local mom and pop place by me for the fitting and to pick up the machine. Any supply orders are done through their 800# now. They are OK. Once I was mailed someone else's order. They paid to ship it back and sent me the correct order. I would definitely stay in network with your company. It's a big savings over what you'd pay not going in network. I have a high insurance deductible, so I pay for everything. Watch your explanation of benefits and make sure everything is correct.

Thank you Wulfman for posting search link for Rotechz: search.php?keywords=Rotech
I should have thought of doing a search myself. I've been busy reading past posts. It's been very helpful!

Thank you also, dreamingofdreaming! I'm starting to make a list of the questions that I need to ask my insurance before calling any of the DME companies. One of the first will be to ask for specific phone numbers of local places so that I can call them and ask questions.

One more question about Rotech, do you know if they mostly use Philips Respironics Machines and Masks? Looking at Rotech's website they heavily promote that company.

Thanks for this very helpful and encouraging website. I have lots of homework to do in order to give my doctor the name of which local DME to send a prescription to.

Yes, it does appear that they may be a P/R seller. But, that doesn't mean they don't provide other brands.

They have an option on their web page to find your local vendor. If you really want to know, I'd call them and ask.

Personally, I've never used a brick and mortar vendor/seller, but before starting therapy, I contacted all of the ones in my area........and then bought my equipment from www.cpap.com (and my insurance provider at that time reimbursed me for 80% of my initial purchases)

The mom and pop place that is contracted with Rotech was a Phillips only place. Rotech uses a company called Sleep Central (still part of Rotech) for all re orders and they have other brands.

Thanks again Wulfman and dreamingofdreaming for the replies.

I had looked at Rotech's site and did find one DME by using their location finder that's about 20-25 miles away. I went down this path two years ago and have known that I had sleep apnea. I even got a machine then but between my doctor, his secretary and the local DME's that I talked to and went with at that time, the whole process was incredibly frustrating and not worth dealing with any of them. I ended up returning my machine. Two years later, I have a new doctor out of a different hospital so I am starting this process with the DME's again.

As of two years ago, my local Apria DME sold only ResMed. This is the route I ended up going last time. I did like the way the machine worked and it was fairly quiet. I still have my Climate Line hose, several masks, traditional hose, extra filters and the water tank from that ResMed AirSense 10 BiPap. But they gave me the option to only choose from about 5 Resmed masks through them. They wouldn't get anything else for me even in the future.

Thanks to the links that both of you provided, I can see that if I would be ordering supplies through Rotech that they do sell many name brands of masks and other supplies. They even sell ResMed machines but I'm guess they may not give me the choice if they deal only with Philips Respironics directly in their store front. I'll have to call to find out for sure next week during business hours.

So over the weekend I'll be looking for posts as to whether the DreamStation is as good as ResMed and even though I have all those supplies on hand, does it matter since in the future I may at least have a better chance of a large variety of masks in the future. So maybe the DreamStation is worth it to get the better choices in supplies.
