Does sleep apnea make you feel poisoned?
Does sleep apnea make you feel poisoned?
Does sleep apnea make you feel poisoned or drugged? I've been looking through my medical records & it keeps repeating "patient complaining about fatigue". Fatigue doesn't sound severe enough & doesn't accurately describe how I feel. They know I have severe sleep apnea yet they only put down "fatigue". I feel like I've been poisoned or drugged. I'm wondering if it's sleep apnea or could it be something else. Simply feeling overly tired or sleepy doesn't really cover it.

Couple of questions...
How many hours of sleep are you getting with the cpap machine? Are those hours fragmented with a lot of wake ups?
Do you take any medications of any kind, if so, what?

I usually sleep straight through around 5 hours at a time with CPAP.Pugsy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 12:32 pmPlease add your equipment to your profile.

I'm taking Amlodipine, Losartan & Indapamide for hypertension.
I'm asking because I have "SEVERE" sleep apnea and "FATIGUE" makes it sound really mild & unimportant. The doctors I'm seeing aren't taking it very seriously.

Amlodipine

read all the side effects at the link but fatigue is one of them.
So...your meds may be a factor in your fatigue.
Also...5 hours of sleep...simply not enough.
And quit worrying about the use of term fatigue and the fact that your OSA is classified as severe and your thinking that it sounds like they are dismissing your symptoms by using "fatigue" as the term. Means nothing...fatigue itself from whatever reason can be disabilitating. Someone can have extreme fatigue with a mild OSA classification...and someone with a severe OSA classification may not complain of fatigue at all.
So I don't know how much of your issues might be related to your medication side effects...but it is possible.
My sister was on some blood pressure medication (I forget the name) and was complaining of massive fatigue...it had a known side effect of fatigue...she had her doctor change to a different BP med and her fatigue went away.

Well i'd be more concerned if your doctor was writing notes like 'Patient feels like they've been poisoned.'

Re: Does sleep apnea make you feel poisoned?
I hardly ever sleep more than 2-5 hours at a time. With or without CPAP.
I can just tell nobody is taking it very seriously. They made a huge deal out of my high blood pressure & worked real hard for months to find the right drugs & dosage to bring it under control. But everything else is treated as a minor sniffle. Here, try this, it's a CPAP machine. It makes you feel worse? Oh well, whatever! That's all we got. Have a nice day!
If that's how I feel they should write exactly that. I'm not simply tired. I don't feel tired or fatigued, I feel like poison or a disease is pumping through my veins. It might be something completely unrelated to sleep apnea. But no matter what I say, CPAP is the miracle cure for everything. I wouldn't be surprised if they told me CPAP can cure cancer.canyouhearmeaya wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 1:35 pmWell i'd be more concerned if your doctor was writing notes like 'Patient feels like they've been poisoned.'![]()
Re: Does sleep apnea make you feel poisoned?
We can try to help you so that using cpap doesn't make you feel worse but we need more specifics to be able to help you.
And yes...most often people don't get the follow up with the machine that is needed to make it successful and that's probably why so many people just give up and shove it in the closet or they get it returned due to non compliance.
That's why we are here...to try to help you since your DME/Doctors can't seem to get it done.
If you feel worse with cpap...what is "worse"...to fix a problem we have to be able to identify the problem first to have any chance of fixing it.

Re: Does sleep apnea make you feel poisoned?
you have now posted two different threads. the only info we've gotten from you is your mask type.Aimless wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 12:27 pmDoes sleep apnea make you feel poisoned or drugged? look, people here aren't asking the impossible. they are simply asking the information they need to help you. we are all on different cpap machine and mask combinations. the smart folk here want to know what you are using so they can tailor their advice to suit your specific needs. putting your equipment in your profile, via the control panel, makes your equipment show up at the bottom of your post, as it does on mine below.
and please, please try to keep to one thread. it makes it so much easier for folks to help you.
unlike your sleep doc, these people WANT to help. so, please help them to help you.
good luck!

Re: Does sleep apnea make you feel poisoned?
It made me feel like I was dying because of the constant feeling of dread and physical symptoms of anxiety. The best way to describe the height of my symptoms that I was having a few weeks ago that made me finally start treatment is that I felt trapped. No energy or will to do much of anything, the daily things I had to do irritated me. I was tired and anxious, but the sleep I needed was actually the cause/amplifier of the physical symptoms I was having, so there was no solution. Beta blockers helped, but I could tell that wasn't the real fix.Aimless wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 12:27 pmDoes sleep apnea make you feel poisoned or drugged? Re: Does sleep apnea make you feel poisoned?
Um, so I had very high blood pressure and morning headaches, and then bp meds, for several years, before anyone (me) thought to check my nighttime o2. It turns out that even when I was given cpap, and was “very compliant” using it, it didn’t fix the nighttime o2. I asked my sleep doc about that, after a few months, and he was not surprised (!). So he referred me to a pulmonologist, and it turns out after a full pulmonary function test, I am found to have late onset allergy- and exercise-Induced asthma, and now that I use a 2xdaily inhaler for that, my o2 has finally normalized, and my sleep is better. And my bp has gone way down!
It’s annoying that insurance seems to require you go through a certain sequence of things for a certain time, and either succeed or fail them, before they will suggest other treatments/diagnostics. I btw also had trouble with my cpap at first because the starting pressure was too low, and I felt it was hard to breathe at first. I did tell them, and they fixed that.

Morning headaches->BP meds, SPO2 vibe->low O2, at-home sleep test, central+obstructive+hypoxia, CPAP,supplemental o2. Full pulmonary function test->adult-onset unspecific-allergy triggered asthma->inhalers->good o2
