DIY Adjustable Headgear for P10 nasal pillows mask?

Post by Stom » Mon Jul 30, 2018 9:08 am

I want to love my P10 nasal pillows mask, but the headgear just too tight. Reviews suggest that in a few months the headgear can easily become too loose. So a proper adjustable headgear seems a must Has anyone made adjustable headgear to solve this problem?

I haven't decided whether I'm going to cannibalize the original headgear and combine it with some other headgear bits I have lying around (the thought of cutting up the overpriced original headgear still makes me cringe), or make a custom piece out of elastic and velcro, so any thoughts on what has worked in the past would be helpful.

The P10 seems like it should be one of the easiest headgears to make, and it's more a matter of deciding where to put the velcro adjustments in a way that will not get in the way.

Where are you located?

I have a spare P10 blue/gray headgear that has been used a lot and is already stretched out a lot that I will just give you...mail it in a letter envelope.

If it isn't stretched out enough yet...you can cannibalize it.

Send me your name and address via PM and I will drop it in the mail to you.

I take the original headgear, cut it, and attach a stretchy fabric to it and then velcro. I happen to have neoprene scraps to use, but you can also use non-stretchy fabric. Then add a long length of velcro for it to stick to. The biggest problem with velcro is that it can scratch, but if you locate it in the same place as the Pad-a-cheek barrell, it's not a problem. The last P10 I received appeared to be as I didn't need to add any length to it. Note: you need to add to both sides of the mask. Adding it to the back of the head will create a sore spot.

My P10 headgear doesn't make it a year before it starts to fray. But do try it on some older stuff if you are nervous about cutting it.

Regular washing helps keep it from getting too stretched out.

Headgear is always the first thing to go on any mask I've ever had.

I like that ResMed has tried to make the P10 super light and minimalist, but I think they really ought to offer an alternate headgear, one that is adjustable so you can have which ever works best for you. I've seen at least one mask that comes with a spare, alternate headgear.

In the four years I have used the P10 mask, I have accumulated six masks.
I wash the headgears in very hot water and Dawn--and cannot tell which ones are the oldest.
