Nasal twitching and runny nose and eye with nasal pillow
Nasal twitching and runny nose and eye with nasal pillow
Hi all
New to the forum and to c pap been using cpap resmed swift fix nasal pillow since July 23. Was going great until August 2 when I woke up with what felt like a feather in my right nostril causeing me to sneeze for about 3 minutes straight. Then stopped but nostril up toward bridge of my nose kept internally twitching. Increased nasal drainage and my right eye was tearing non stop lasted all day through work until about 8 pm then just felt like maybe I had a cold. After Friday it was all cleared. All was back to normal until this am August 8 same thing except on left nostril.
I’ve been using nasacort in both nostrils since the first instance.
I clean my tubing and pillow daily. And I use
Distilled water in my humidifier.
Am I doing something wrong ? Had this happened to anyone else? Should I
Try a face mask instead? Could th pillows be too direct on my nasal passages ?
Thanks

Sounds like either a specific allergy to ? (depending on what you eat, wear (including e.g. new soap or make-up), where you walk, what you pet, whatever), OR you might be either (again depending on where you live relative to humidity) using too much humidity and/or heat with it - it's an optional feature, not mandatory - or not enough (if you're eg in Arizona or somewhere very dry). So you'll have to play with settings after considering ambient conditions, or look out for particular allergies (which can be new for anyone, anytime).

It sounds like an allergic reaction, like hay fever.
Mindful of the dangers of long-term steroids, I would thoroughly clean mask, hose, etc,
switch to an anti-allergen filter, and try an oral antihistamine (which I do)
Nothing gets between me and my cpap.

You might want to turn up the humidifier on your CPAP a bit. My sinuses are pretty sensitive to the dry air (which causes me to have non-allergy rhinitis) and I've used both the pillow and now the cushion. Also, you might try a little product I posted recently called NeilMed Nasal Gel for dry noses before you go to bed. It helps me a lot! NO big chemicals in there!

Sounds like allergies or a cold.

It's happened to a friend of mine twice in about the same period of time.

We've had a dry summer, but lately it rained a good bit. We surmised that something different bloomed or some mold grew.
With a little luck, it may not happen to you again.
What are your humidifier settings? What is the ambient humidity level in your bedroom?
For typical conditions, it is recommended to start with a middle range humidifier setting. Then, if your nasal passages feel dry in the night or morning, run some trials at higher levels. If your nasal passages don't feel dry, you might want to try some lower settings.

Thank you all for the replies I actually talk to my DM E provider and apparently they never enabled my humidifier so I’ve been using it dry for three weeks. I now have the heated humidifier started on level two and I’m going to try the dream weaver full face mask as well to see how that goes will keep you updated

If you get the clinicians' manual, you will not need to rely on the DME to do simple adjustments for you.
