Mask that just covers mouth.

Post by Jbrooks130 » Fri Aug 10, 2018 5:43 pm

I have been using my Air-touch f20 Full Face mask for roughly 6 months. Although it does fit well, It is a bit uncomfortable. I cannot use nasal masks because I am a mouth breather. Do they make a comfortable mask that covers just my mouth. Do I really need to have my mouth and nose encased in mask when I primarily breathe through my mouth. Just curious????

I guess the Oracle would be considered a mouth mask. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/fisher ... -mask.html

Look at this mask. See if it interest you.
The nose has to be dealt with in some fashion unless you never ever can move air through your nose at all.
It is a full face mask but doesn't have so much of a footprint on the face and nothing on the nasal bridge area.

Yeah, that one (Innomed/RespCare Hybrid) is decent enough but I tend to offer what I have had the greatest success with first.
The Innomed Hybrid was a real bitch to figure out how to get everything together and took a lot of fiddling to get it even close to a decent seal and the overall footprint of the frame is bigger than the DreamWear.

For that reason I tend to suggest what works for me the best ....as first suggestion. Just like we all do...recommend what works for us.

The DreamWear is more pliable and less footprint on the face...and I think it is superior to the Hybrid.
Now if someone doesn't like the frame and the hose the way they are but otherwise like the idea then yeah...Hybrid would be the next choice in my book.

I tried the hybrid... I didn't like it.. but I know others do, and so, figured it was worth putting on the table, just to offer another possible option.

I tried the Liberty and Hybrid both to varying degrees of success. However, I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the nasal connection could be blocked/defeated to result in an oral interface only. Does this strike a bell? I do know the two nasal pillows could be independently sized if one had nares of differing sizes.

I have a have a deviated septum. Would the dreamwear pose an issue? I cannot breathe through my nose well at all.

The DreamWear full face mask has a slot for the nose to move air so if your nose is open enough to move air you could but if your nose won't move air then it really doesn't matter if the slot for the nose is there or not. It will just be there and not used. No big deal.

I am a mouth breather all night. I have some experience with a nose that works when I ask it to, but it seems to prefer to avoid usage.

I like both the Quattro FX full face mask and the Oracle mouth only mask. I do not use my nose while sleeping. I am a mouth breather part of the day and all of the night. On a couple occasions with the full face mask, I intentionally inhaled through my nose, and I hated it. So, it is pretty clear to me that I am using a full face mask without air going through my nose. Also, when I use the Oracle, I do not plug my nose, and yet there is no airflow from my nose.

I have tried a hybrid mask and hated it. I tried plugging the pillows to make them a mouth only mask, and it produced a weird effect each time I swallowed. I can't remember exactly as that was 6 years ago. I gave up on that mask quickly.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Try my mask, RespCare/Innomed: 4 parts, pillows, cushion that covers the mouth, hard shell, and headgear. Comes with 3 sizes of pillows and cushions to find a good fit to the face. This mouth-breather loves it! I have claustrophobia and this mask doesn't trigger it because when it's on, I can't see it. I tried the Liberty but it has a lot of parts and i could not get it to seal.

This will probably be your problem with a mouth-only interface. The "sceondarily" will get you.
