I just did a google search for deviated septum or better yet, septoplasty and you will come up with all kinds of information. From what I read and from my experience, the google stuff is pretty accurate. Hope this helps.

Hey, Jeff!
Thanks to you as well. As miserable as recovery can be, it's always good to know that there are others out there going through the same thing.
Anyway, I have concluded that part of my congestion may be caused by a cold that was just starting up the day before the surgery (although all the work on my sinuses didn't help). I am a bit clearer today, and am feeling more hopeful that I'll breathe better than before the surgery.

When I had my nose "done" it was three to four weeks before I could really breathe well through my nose. I was able to sleep in a recliner after my first cleanout visit at one week.

The Dr downplayed the recovery time, I expected to be able to breathe a lot better a lot sooner.

The swelling in the nasal tissues can last for some time. That's what keeps you congested, in addition to all the "gunk" up in there.

Give it time. It gets better, and you'll be glad you did it.

It does however take

I slept over 9 hours last nite with my APAP and only woke up a couple of times. I was a little congested on one side when I went to bed, but the air blew it open shortly after lying down. The amount of air that was going in my nose was amazing to me. I think I just laid there awake for awhile enjoying the lack of restriction to the air flow.

Also, hardly any congestion this morning. Doc did recommend the nasal rinses for a while and I'm doing that two or three times a day,

Thanks for the input, ca_hosehead! It sounds like everyone is different in how they respond to this surgery. Good to know that my experience is not outside the realm of normal

visited the ENT this week and after chemically cauterizing a vessel in my nose (it really did hurt, much more than i prepared myself for), she stuck the camera up there and found a severely deviated septum...i'm thrilled, in that i realize i've never been able to breathe right and always chalked it up to allergies and the poor air quality where i live, but now i see that there may be a chance to breathe more easily and maybe get off the reactine/claritin/allegra roller coaster...took me 41 years to realize i'm only blocked on one side, even in the midst of a brutal allergy attack...anyway, set for septoplasty on april 3rd, and feeling prepared and encouraged thanks to you guys "scouting ahead" as it's been called here...sleep doc asked her to get me in asap to enhance my cpap therapy and i guess i'm wondering too...will i need to change my pressure? i'm only on 6 now which i guess is quite low, so maybe not...

frapilu, your surgery is coming up fairly soon now,too, isn't it? we'll have to support each other like these guys ahead of us did!

You're so lucky you're having your surgery so soon. I have to wait until April 30 so you'll have to post to let me know how you're doing.

Hey, you're from Canada too! How did you get such a short wait-time?! I saw my ENT January 31st and got April 30 as an appointment. My GP said it was a normal wait-time for a septoplasty.

i did get really lucky, mainly because i saw my sleep doc on a thursday, feb.15, and when he sent the referral to the ENT, they had a full day open due to cancelled surgeries on the following tuesday, the 22nd! i was pretty shocked, too...then when i agreed to the surgery, that was the date her nurse gave me...it worked out to six weeks wait...
so, i'll let you know how that goes--although i have to confess that i must be a bigger baby than i thought, because that cauterized blood vessel is STILL causing me some pain!

by the way, i'll be in ottawa for the first time on may 22--what can i expect, weather-wise?
