Anyone have any experience with the LUMIN CPAP Cleaner

Post by moondoggy » Mon Oct 01, 2018 9:11 am

OK, I received an answer concerning the merits of the VirtuClean Ozone CPAP cleaner and the issue of residual ozone freaks me out but I read another article yesterday about another cleaner called LUMIN. This cleaner uses a ultra-violet light to clean your equipment. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of cleaner?

Do you understand the difference between "cleaning" and "sanitizing"?
Are you wanting something to take the place of soap and water removing the gunk (snot, slobber, facial oils, etc) or are you wanting to nuke germs, bacteria and other such little bugs we can't see?

When you sanitize you nuke stuff (assuming the product actually kills anything) but you have remaining nuked snot, slobber, facial oils, grime, dirt etc...that still has to be removed with soap and water or similar hand cleaning.

If the thought of germs, bugs, bacteria freak you out...by all means nuke them if it makes you feel better but you are still going to have to manually remove the gunk from the mask.

Okay, I see a previous post with the same thing so ignore, I don't have the heart to delete my work.

In my dictionary this is the definition of clean.

verb [with object]
make (something or someone) free of dirt, marks, or mess, especially by washing, wiping, or brushing: clean your teeth properly after meals.

I clean my CPAP mask, hose by washing, wiping and infrequently by brushing. When I brush it's to get dust out of corners on the outside of the machine.

Maybe you meant clean as in sanitize. I bet where the light hit it would kill bugs, but then I would need to clean out the dead bacteria, mold, virus debris to say nothing about the face oils, flakes of skin and such deposited nightly on my mask cushion.

It can't get *inside* anything, so sure, it'll kill any harmless bactiera on the *outside* of your mask and hose, while at the same time degrading the plastic of your mask and hose....

Give it up, there's no need for these expensive toys, just wash your mask every week and wipe down the cushion every night.
