resmed airsense10 autoset - GLUE

Post by Grace~~~ » Thu Oct 04, 2018 2:53 pm

Quick question.

I have to pack and unpack my autoset every few days and the rubber strip on the bottom has come loose. I feel like if I try the wrong glue and it doesn't work I will have made a mess of it and missed my opportunity for a good repair.

I was hoping to get suggestions from experienced people and possibly learn from the mistakes of others?

It is two pieces of thin gray rubber strip that goes around the two stickers on the left side bottom. The strip itself does have little "nubbins" on it and little holes on the machine that it seems like I should be able to push the nubbins in to but maybe that requires a tool as I cannot get them to snap in place and hold?

I'm guessing this rubber strip is there just to keep the machine from slipping or to keep vibration down and make it quieter? I would really like to repair it before it comes off completely. I like keeping my things in good order and I just hate the thought of ripping this off (as has been the advice of my real life /non cpaptalk "advisors").

I know some members here are very handy and even clean, recondition and repair machines so surely this strip has come loose for someone before ... though I couldn't find a keyword for it? Also, just out of pure curiosity I do wonder why the strip is there and if my assumptions (above) are correct?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Couple of drops of gel crazy glue should fix it. Good luck.

Hi FifthAvenue ~~~

Thanks for the advice. Superglue or crazy glue was my first choice. I wish I could figure out a way to get the nubs in to the holes too?

The only reason I hesitated on the superglue was that I thought it might "melt" the rubber and make it stiff and impossible to work with in the off chance it didn't stick.

I guess rubber cement might be another idea? But probably a toothpick application of crazy glue is best.

I know the machine doesn't need this strip but obviously it's there for a reason so I hope I can get it to stick. I wish I had done it when only a half inch was loose but I hesitated then too thinking the crazyglue might be a mistake and now it's loose in two places.

...but I can't imagine what else would work better and it's probably not too important to the machine anyway.

If the nubs will not go back in cut them off--then glue.

the part before --then glue, where you say if the nubs will not go back in, cut them off? sounds like the decree of a mad queen!!

Use contact cement. I do a lot of automotive work and audio speaker refinishing work and contact cement works great. I had to bond foam speaker surrounds to a graphite speaker cone and it didn’t melt the foam. Crazy glue in the other hand is cyanoacrylate and it can harm rubber. You just stroll down to the local office supply store and buy a bottle of it and brush on a thin coat on and put pressure on it and should stick perfectly.

This discussion got me to thinking.
Just looked at the bottom of my Airsense 10 Autoset for Her.
Surprise! I had forgotten about the label I had put on the bottom the day I got it.
Four years ago--day before yesterday.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I sure wish I could get those nubs in the holes but it looks like I will have to follow ChunkyFrog's advice and slice them off.
I wonder how Resmed got them in the holes at the time of being manufactured? The holes are sooooo tiny. Could my nubs have swollen?

CF ... have you used your "autoset for her" every night now for four years or do you rotate machines? Do you use it on the "For her" setting? I'm sure I've read your answer to this a ton of times. I already have a "note to self" that I'd like to try a "for her" model on my next and/or back up machine.

I wish I had a machine at each of the three places I bounce between. I wonder if I am shortening the life of more than just the rubber by always packing it up and hauling it around. Can't be good for it, but right now it can't be helped.

Fingers crossed I will get a very professional repair!
Thanks Again.

@ Grace - can you post a picture of the nubs? I am sure you could get them back in with enough persistence with perhaps a toothpick.
