Reflux Band - Also Solution for CPAP Aerophagia?

Post by ChicagoGranny » Wed Oct 17, 2018 4:41 pm

https://refluxband.com/

The first-of-its-kind wearable device that reduces or eliminates nighttime acid reflux and throat burn.

Reflux Band (formerly known as Reza Band) was designed to be worn while you sleep, applying a slight, external pressure at the cricoid cartilage area, which increases the internal pressure within the upper esophageal sphincter (UES), thus preventing reflux from reaching the throat, voice box and lungs.

Wearing the Reflux Band feels familiar, like wearing a buttoned shirt collar. The amount of pressure applied is similar to taking your pulse. Your breathing and swallowing remain normal.

In clinical studies, 86% of patients had successful results using the Reflux Band and there were no serious or unexpected problems reported. 95% of physicians reported satisfaction with the Reflux Band. The Reflux Band has a 30-Day Money Back Guarantee so you can try it risk-free. ($169 - no prescription required).

Looks potentially useful for reflux. But the studies the company notes don't seem to reference any comparison to sleeping on an incline. I'd be interested to know if the device worked better/worse/the same as doing so.

And the idea that it might be useful for aerophagia is interesting, as that is something started struggling with recently. But one more awkward thing to wear while sleeping... :-(

" . . . like a buttoned shirt collar . . . "
This thing goes on the NECK?
I cannot help thinking of hazards.
At least it is reversible--but the cost?
Hmmmm.
Nope.

Doesn't look awkward to me. But, then I have worn a firm, foam, cervical collar every night for years.

How much of an incline are you thinking of? How practical is inclined sleeping when traveling?

Very cheap. Especially if it prevents Barrett's esophagus or replaces a fundoplication surgery.

yeah, that price would have to come down a bit before i'd give it a go to see how it would work against aerophagia.

funny thing. i googled "reflux band" to find if there was anything cheaper. no, but it turns out there is a band named "reflux"!!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

20-30%

I have a giant, custom foam wedge pillow at home and I use a tower of pillows when traveling (not nearly as comfortable and I sometimes have to ask for extra pillows and/or stuff stuff under the mattress). It's a pain, but my sinuses don't drain if I sleep flat (so the 6% people talks about for GERD isn't enough for me), and I've had reflux even before CPAP. I also had a couple of travel wedge pillows made as well, including one I can take in a backpack on a plane, but I generally only use them if I'm traveling by car, which I don't do nearly as often as by air.

The cost of that dohicky isn't cheap, but it's the exact same price as the new F30 mask so many people are rushing to buy.

And the doohickey comes with a 30-day guarantee. No need to buy return insurance.

I don't have aerophagia when sleeping on my back. But late some mornings, I feel uncomfortable and roll to my side to sleep another hour or so. That's when I get aerophagia. If I had it like that all night, I would give the Reflux Band a 30-day trial. It would fit cozily under my foam cervical collar. :D

It would be nice if one of our longterm CPAP users who has unresolved aerophagia would give it a try and have great success.

Some "music" does give me reflux . . .
Awkward for a frog, ya know.

That would be lovely. I hope that it can happen, for their sake and because my aerophagia is only under control at the moment because of my low treatment pressures and an EPR of 2, but those settings may have to change in the future and the aerophagia can easily come back.

And we thought cpaps had a high markup... that's like ... maybe a buck worth of material.
