Hi all,
It's been several years since posting. I'm still successfully using my Respironics M-Series AutoCPAP with a heated Aussie Hose. But I may replace this with a newer machine.
I would be interested in updating myself on which AutoCPAPS are most recommended now by seasoned CPAP users.
Would love to hear what are the top recommendations - what you like most about them - and how they compare with each other ( and perhaps with what I'm currently using.)
Thanks so much!!
Joy
Most recommended Auto CPAP??

I have good insurance, though I don't know if I will go that route this time. I am NOT price sensitive when it comes to an AutoCPAP machine.

Re: Most recommended Auto CPAP??
The most recommended machine on apnea forums seems to be the ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset, more so than the Phillips models, but I don't stats on that.
Built in humidifier. Good usability with Sleepyhead via SD card. Comes in a "For Her" model that offers all the features of the regular model but has an additional algorithm that is supposedly optimized for the way women respond. Integrated heated hose and automatic humidity/temperature control available. Dishwasher safe humidifier tank available. Fully usable, reasonably designed travel bag included.
It has a less spiky APAP algorithm than the Phillips. You can reliably tell ResMed from Phillips apart by just looking at the APAP treatment pressure graph. I don't know how that translates to outcomes, though. But they definitely are different.

Re: Most recommended Auto CPAP??
Thanks for your input, Stom. I have just one question: What is SLEEPYHEAD & a SD card??

Re: Most recommended Auto CPAP??
Sleepyhead is free, open source software you can use to see graphs and details of all the data your machine collects so you can better evaluate your treatment. ResMed CPAPs can take SD cards (the kind cameras use) to record data. The Airsense 10 *Autoset* records more than the basic machines. You can then take the SD card from the machine and upload it to your PC or mac. There are many threads on the forum about Sleepyhead. You don't need it to use your machine, but many people who want to take a pro-active approach to their PAP treatment like having the details available. Most users do not use, or even know about, Sleepyhead and just rely on the machine's "sleep report" which gives time on the machine, AHI and leak rate. The ResMed machines all now include a cellular modem that transmits that data via cell towers (no WiFi needed) to ResMed. You can access that data by signing up for ResMed's "MyAir" but you won't get any more information than the machine shows you. Your doctor and/or DME can see more detailed data via the cellular modem and change the prescription settings remotely,.

Re: Most recommended Auto CPAP??
These newer machine models (both ResMed and Respironics) are leaps and bounds improved over your M series apap. My first machine ever was a M Series apap.
Quieter...improved auto adjusting algorithms...more data recording with easier access to the data.
See this

I have used both brands...Respironics and ResMed. I prefer the ResMed myself but that doesn't mean that you would. It does do things a little differently and for some people that "differently" doesn't always feel so great when a person has been using the Respironics way of doing things for so long.
So...my unofficial estimate as to what happened when a Respironics user changed to ResMed....95% loved it but 5% hated it.
A lot of it is simply what a person is used to and how easily they can adapt to something slightly different. Most people do very well with it and I get "I can't believe how much better the ResMed is" response many more times than the "I hate the damn thing" response.
