Hair dent (wish I was making this up)

Post by JayDee » Sat Nov 24, 2018 8:06 am

I recently got a haircut and noticed a moderate dent/trough in my hair after shampooing that evening. It is as if I were wearing a hair-band over the top of my head. My first knee-jerk reaction was I got a lousy haircut. Then I realized it aligns with where the DreamWear mask sits on top of my head. Apologies to the staff at Great Clips for wrongly blaming them for a self-inflicted issue - they're nice folks.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of it, short of "stop using the DW mask"? It's darned persistent. I've tried shampoo and conditioners. Also tried enough hairspray to put a dent in Dolly Parton's mid-1970's hair-budget. But that only works to hide the dent if I plaster all the non-affected areas down to the level of the affected area. As near as I can figure, it's not that the affected area stands up, but that it is mashed down and really wants to stay mashed down. If it makes any difference, I have straight hair with a fairly moderate amount of natural body to it.

Thanks,
-JD

I also use dreamwear mask and my barber commented on this yesterday while I was getting my hair cut. I do notice that you can see where the top band sits as my flattop is mashed down in the morning. I normally use pomade in my hair to achieve the flattop look and that takes care of it. I didn't put in pomade in yesterday as I knew I was getting a haircut. I explained it to him and said that right now I wouldnt care if it was permanent as I like sleeping again! I have only been on APAP for 2 1/2 months and my hair is the least of my concerns. If it does become problematic maybe I will just get a crew cut!

Perhaps you could just wear that hat that is in your avatar :D

Add some sort of strap pad or fleece cover to help diffuse the pressure of anything on the face or scalp.
Padacheek makes some great ones or a person could make their own if they are DIY handy.

Keep the dent. It helps the headgear stay in position.

Looks promising. Looks simple enough to try the DIY route. And if it doesn't work, there's always hat shopping...

I noticed the same thing when I was used the F&P Simplus mask. A strap pad from Padacheek solved the problem. I continued to use the strap pad when I switched to other masks, and have not noticed the problem since then.

It's so we can spot each other in public and give a knowing nod as we pass.

I have short hair and what I do have wants to stand up. I don't notice a dent yet, but then I'm only 9 months into it so maybe my skull is harder than my family thinks. Either way, I don't care. Let it stand up, mash down, or dent. I like to sleep quietly and so does my wife.
