Burn or heat marks on AirSense 10 water reservoir?

Post by CPAPSteve » Sun Nov 25, 2018 1:10 am

Does anyone else’s reservoir have this problem where there is a burn or heat mark inside the water reservoir? My AirSense 10 was a new unit (replaced under warranty) and I have accumulated 216 run hours on it since I got it. Unit was a new out of factory box unit with all new parts. My previous machine was also new but in the 3.5 months of daily use I never had a brown mark show up in the water tank. Would this be another warranty claim?

Thanks

Stainless steel can discolor... I don't know if that's stainless or aluminum. take a magnet to it, stainless is usually very slightly magnetic.

Did you run it when dry?

Nope not once ever. I tend to overfill my reservoir with more water than I know I will ever need. There is always water left in it each morning. Always have used distilled water.

mine has the burn mark too. i ran it dry once or twice and replaced the old one that had a mark. i have not run the new one dry and it also has the mark. my guess is once the hot plate gets a mark or hot spot, it will transfer to new reservoirs over time. having the ability to get a new reservoir periodically from insurance makes it a non-issue for me.

What is interesting is that my previous machine prior to the cellular modem dying in it was run dry several times and not once did it brown. I am wondering if this is a real issue that should be warrantied where the warming plate has a hot spot that is transferring over into the reservoir.

Seems minor but given the cost of what I paid for this thing that I’d prefer to have a machine that operates perfectly with no issues.

I have the same burn marks. My AS10 is only a few weeks old, and never run dry (but close a couple times).

There's no reason steel should discolor like that (at least with any temperature short of a welding rig). Maybe there's some sort of coating on the metal? I haven't tried rubbing it off yet ..

Just get a little Bar Keepers Friend and clean it, if it bothers you that much.

Steel heat discolors at far lower temps than 'welding', you get it on steel cookwear all the time.

at the end of the day if others are seeing similar marks on their reservoirs then I will assume that my little brown mark is considered normal. It isn't causing any functional issues so I'm not going to bring this up as a warranty issue unless it gets worse or starts melting parts.

Thanks,

I see a mark on mine, it’s bigger, but other than cosmetic, seems to make no difference.

I get little marks on mine as well.
On my S9, there was a rainbow-colored stain.
All tanks were steel.
Stainless steel is not completely uniform--particularly world-wide.
Discoloration is relatively common.
I suppose that is why they make cleaners for it.

Mine has the same marks too. I just ignore it.
