SleepTracker smart bed

Post by djams » Sat Dec 01, 2018 6:36 pm

Pugsy's consistent and sound advice "what matters is how you sleep" sent me off looking at all of the devices that monitor and report on sleep. Honestly, I feel good, and most mornings I feel like I've sleep well. I constantly wonder just how much deep and REM sleep I get, and I'd like to be able to track my over time.

After researching a lot of devices (did you know there's a "smart mattress cover" out there?), I felt that the SleepTracker was an easy choice.

1) I don't have to wear it. It's two approximately 4" x 6" x .75" sensor pads that are placed between the mattress and bed frame. Under the pillows.
2) I don't have to charge it. The sensors lead to a small processor unit that sits on the floor. This unit plugs into an outlet. During setup, it connects to your wifi.
3) I don't have to turn it on. When I want to use it, I go to bed. Just like usual.
4) There are (2) sensors. For me and my wife. This made the price right. ($125.00)
5) The claim a very high level of accuracy. https://www.sleeptracker.com/news/artic ... dification
"Correlation of the Sleeptracker® Monitor to Polysomnography is accomplished through a fully operational onsite PSG lab staffed by a licensed sleep specialist. While the focus is on CBM rather than diagnosing apnea, this ongoing calibration ensures the Sleeptracker® Monitor delivers greater than 90% accuracy compared to invasive sleep monitoring. Accuracy is focused on time to fall asleep, sleep efficiency, wake-up events, respiration rates, heart rates and REM sleep.
The company behind this technology licenses it to other devices as well. Because of this, they've got a database of "millions of sleep nights", which allows for some interesting (so far) analytics and demographic comparisons. I get to see how my sleep compares to "people like me". I find that useful. Will be interesting to see if the "Coach Insight" and "Community Insight" turn into repeating information. Supposedly both are driven by AI.

It has the sleep cycle alarm. So one of these days, I'll get awakened during light sleep. So far, I've been in REM every morning during my 30 minute window. Looking forward to seeing if that makes a difference.

I'm skeptical about accurate sleep stages without monitoring brain waves. It's my nature. Either way, I think monitoring sleep over the long haul is good. Will be able to spot if things are changing.

Been using this for a week, and I like what I'm seeing so far. And I know that I'll continue using it, because I don't have to do a thing. Just go to bed. This really was the biggest selling point.

Thought I'd share in case anyone else is interested. And Pugsy, thanks for the consistent message. You got me to spend some more money.

Hey, you are most welcome. I am really good at spending other people's money. Ever know a woman that wasn't?
Looks interesting...and actually cheaper than the FitBit Charge thing I bought that crapped out after 6 months...won't be doing that again as it was the second FitBit to crap out....first one was the plain one just for steps and stuff. No more FitBits for me.

Might put it on my wish list.
Right now it's kinda long right now with re-doing some house stuff. New stove..building a deck, etc.

I saw the sleeptracker selling for as much as $199. Doesn't take much looking to find a much better price.I tried the Fitbit thing a couple of years ago. Big wellness push at work. Just one more thing to keep charged. At the time, it was just steps and heart rate. Now, I'm spending all of my work day in areas that don't allow any wireless devices. I started my search hoping for another option.

I hope you do. It'd be great hearing your experienced thoughts. Plus, you'd be able to verify(or not) the REM periods by looking at your SH pressure graph. I've verified what I can using my SH flow chart. Time I fall asleep, restless periods throughout the night and breathing rate are all very accurate in the sleeptracker data.

It will have to go way down on the wish list...maybe next spring or something like that.
I now have the new stove...got it just in time for Thanksgiving.
The new deck/patio is next and that's going to cost a lot more than my stove. Sigh...I have champagne taste with a beer pocketbook.
Plus I am losing weight...and I need some new smaller clothes...per hubby...says right now I look like a homeless woman in baggy clothes.
And there is Christmas coming up and every insurance policy I have comes due in Dec.

All this sounds more important. Congrats on the weight loss! New clothes can be the reward for your hard work. :)
