Dreamstation: rust on plate in humidifier tray
Dreamstation: rust on plate in humidifier tray
Noticed a pinhead size dot of rust on the inside of the humidifier tray plate. Should I replace the tray?

How old is the machine? The manufacturer's warranty is two years. They might replace the humidifier. Or, they might claim you allowed water ingress.

Re: Dreamstation: rust on plate in humidifier tray
If it were on my machine, I would simply rub the spot off with a Q-Tip and stovetop cleaner but I don't know how accessible the "Dreamstation" plate may be. My present machine (DeVilbiss) has a stainless steel heat transfer plate and though I have used the machine nightly for two years, the plate is shiny as the day I first set it up. It is possible that the dot you see is some sort of residue from water and not actual rusting of the plate. In any case, there is no health hazard if it is rust.

What is a "humidifier tray plate", and how would you replace it?
Are you talking about the inside of the humidifier water chamber? the outside of it? or the warming plate that's part of the humidifier unit?

Re: Dreamstation: rust on plate in humidifier tray
Inside the plastic humidifier water holder tray the round metal plate is exposed to heat the water. The rust is on that, making contact with the water that one would breathe.
Re: Dreamstation: rust on plate in humidifier tray
Well, it doesn't really matter if there's some rust in the chamber, because when it heats up, all that comes off, that you breathe, is pure water vapor.
But, if it bothers you, go ahead and replace the water chamber.

Thanks so much!

Re: Dreamstation: rust on plate in humidifier tray
I agree that it's harmless. However, I would replace the tank.
Re: Dreamstation: rust on plate in humidifier tray
Maybe the rust spot is a tiny amount of iron deposits that came from your water source? Just something to consider as well.
Re: Dreamstation: rust on plate in humidifier tray
The humidifer tray is on the schedule to be replaced once a year. I just got one, it was surprisingly cheap.

You shouldn't replace *anything* on a schedule, only replace it when it *needs* to be replaced, whether it's a filter, or a water tank, or a mask cushion, or a hose.

What I *meant* was that my insurance approved a new humidifier tray for me last month so I got it. It's still in the package

You should absolutely have a spare of everything, just don't throw out perfectly good things simply because the seller gives you a meaningless "schedule for replacement"... (if they did where you are).Chris8243 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 16, 2018 10:19 amWhat I *meant* was that my insurance approved a new humidifier tray for me last month so I got it. It's still in the packageI don't plan to use it until the first one poops out. It's made of acrylic plastic so I could see it getting a crack if dropped on just the right spot on a tile floor.
