What on earth. I leave for holiday functions and come back to this? What are all of you mewling about?

The boards instructions for new members clearly ask that we start our own thread rather than glomming on to someones else’s. This is my thread specifically asking about filter resources. Nothing else.

If you want to go off on tangents - Start-Your-Own-Thread. If you don’t have an answer to my simple query - that’s fine. But you don’t have use my thread just because you’re bored. I thought that by bloodying a few noses I would get my point across and avoid the ‘barnacles’ every forum seems to have attaching themselves in the future. I guess Apnea is just entertainment for some of these guys?

Though I’ve only skimmed these replies so far (excepting the pedantic ones that I’ve skipped), I’m getting the impression that some of you seem to act as if you have some proprietary knowledge or feel your purpose is to be some sort of gatekeeper. You don’t and you’re not.

Before the results of my test I scanned the same internet that the rest of you use. A ’Motherboard’ article came up profiling Sleepyhead etc. (I even downloaded the free software out of curiosity though I had no data to feed it). I also skimmed various forums, read a few articles to get up to speed with the basics & watched some interesting YouTube videos on how you could access features of the machines.
A few day later during the class they made me take the nurse walked over to check / adjust the settings and I clearly saw her depress two buttons at once and scroll features I didn’t see previously - reminding me of those youtube videos.
Prior to that It was clearly explained to me by my assigned sleep lab doctor that the machine would need a month or so to collect data and I was to do my best to stick with the therapy. (btw - No one has any business telling a newbie their settings aren’t right or ‘set’ yet. In fact it’s irresponsible. They are exactly where they should be to start, to begin a supervised data collection process for quite a while. Period).
This is all before taking my first hit off the machine and I’m mentioning it because a lot of you assumed a great deal with almost zero info to go on just because I said I just got the machine.

If you have something constructive to contribute about remedying the perimeter seal or filter media here I would welcome your participation. If not, then start-your-own-thread. (btw - thank you to those who did try to stay on topic, when I have a chance I will re-read).

fwiw - I currently have the ResMed M056086 (standard) (M056084 hypo) filter but until I find a solution to the poor perimeter seal on the AirSense 10 (silicone gasket bead perhaps) I will probably order some of the AG36856 hypos (AG36859 / AG36855) as replacements.

We get it, you're rude, you're arrogant, you're ignorant, and you still trust what you were told when you picked up your machine.

How naive and precious.

Also, you have absolutely *ZERO* standing to tell anybody here anything about what should or shouldn't be told to newbies.

As far as your grandstanding about people adding things to *your* thread...

apap, you would probably do well to not read any of the replies. Truth can be hard on the ego, and can be hard to deal with.

As to the issue of el cheapo filters, considering what is at stake,
(your machine, lungs, etc) that is probably a poor place to "cheap out" on yourself.
Proper filters can be purchased online way less spendy than the rip-off local DME.
This forum exists because real, HONEST, experienced advice is scarce.
The gurus here really know what they are talking about.
If the advice given elsewhere does not agree, then it is quite likely to be inaccurate.
If you have made up your mind, and continue to follow bad advice--it is not our fault.
Have a lovely new year.

Good gravy! A month at the default settings? I'd have thrown the machine out the window before the first week was over. Fortunately, I found this forum and the (readily available) wisdom and experience had me well on the path to optimized settings. Immediate comfort. No waiting. I only had to suffer the first night at default settings. At my 90-day checkup, my sleep-doc was happy with the good results I was getting. And those expedited good results were due to the changes I made to the machine settings based on guidance from this very forum. The doc had nothing to offer or advice to give at that point as I had my treatment well under control. He only suggested I make another follow-up in 6 months (I probably won't).

None of this is rocket-surgery. Dialing in optimal settings is pretty straightforward. I would wager that for the vast majority of folks, it's boringly simple. The hardest part of the treatment, in my experience, is finding a mask that works best. I honestly see no need for a doc or Rx, other than insurance requires it. Given my high deductible, I would have come out cheaper had I just bought my own machine & mask without insurance. Had I found this forum beforehand, I most likely would have gone that route with no sleep-doctor involved at all.

As for the filter -- whatever gets past the filter will likely get caught in the humidifier water. What little gets past the humidifier water is likely trivial, at least for the vast majority of folks. If you are sensitive to what gets past the filter and humidifier, then you have worse problems and likely need to worry more about the ambient air in your house.

Best of luck.

Yeah, a night or two *at the most* before evaluating the data.

No no, mr bitchy has *clearly* stated that he is concerned about not wanting the inside of his cpap to look like this:

APAP - Excellent analysis of this forum's atmosphere. If you are not among the anointed few, you are expected to be quiet and listen to the CPAP oracles. There are other apnea forums with a less possessive character. A probable oracle response will be to suggest that you and I use that forum and not attempt to interrupt their wisdom here.

I found your reply (presumably as intended) belligerent and insulting. I took the time to respond to some of your comments (all things you talked about -- mostly in your second post) in a thoughtful manner -- and I get mostly name calling in return. Umm, okay.

While you insist that others speak only of filters, you stray considerably from that topic (see above).

In terms of your comment above, I can only say that my sleep doc (MD from Tufts with fellowships in both neurology and sleep med) would say that is what the titration study (mine was the second half of the sleep study) is for -- to establish that starting range (and max pressure needs) unique to the needs of that patient. Mine was 14 and 22. Then you collect data. And he also said if things aren't working well after a week or so, let them know!

Yikes! If it stands any chance at getting anywhere near a 10th as dirty as that, then the person needs to consider they quite possibly live in the equivalent of a Tijuana muffler shop and should focus on cleaning their home. That filter is the least of their worries.
If you're not having a good time, *DO* something about it.

Man, look at them, they’re really into it. Like stirring up a hornets nest. They’ve been going at it for three pages now and they still don’t have any answers on how to seal the perimeter or a source for larger filter media.

Words like “the ‘gurus’ here” and who has “standing” are red flags, as well as the inability to respect someone else’s thread or their own forum rules (they don’t apply to the ‘gurus’) let alone unable to comprehend the specific question asked without feeling threatened is telling for sure.

I think I'll try the rtv silicone approach which will allow the use of available filters. Simple enough.

I have an Airsense 10 Autoset and the hypoallergenic filters I buy from Amazon do seal the entire space. So, maybe you should get some hypoallergenic filters.

I did notice some reviews on amazon saying their filters were a bit larger than oem but I think the seller responded they were going to correct that. But maybe, like you say, I will find a brand that’s slightly larger or puffier(?)

Went ahead and ordered these on the left of page link. https://store.filtrationgroup.com/searc ... ic&search=
They look quilted for lack of a better description, though the seller lists the ones I purchased as AG36855 (different number of filters per bag). Got to start somewhere.

When I shine a flashlight against the plastic door, no matter how carefully I position filter first, I can see space between body of unit and filter. I think it partially has to do with the thin heat seamed edges of the stock standard filter I got and perhaps the wider un-seamed edges of an aftermarket solves this. Manufactures are always evolving their products and besides the filter fit the door clasp design on the S10 seems lacking as well. Just seems like there will be a simple tweak to arrive at what they must have intended.

Why bother with filter changes, I have a HEPA filter blower in my bedroom, fan blows at the intake of the CPAP. Filter never gets dirty. Once every two years is the replacement requirement for the HEPA machine. The benefit is, the old B&C also gets to breath clean air.
