Sturdy travel case?
Sturdy travel case?
Hi,
I travel a lot by air and was wondering if anyone knows of a sturdy travel case I could use that will fit my dreamstation, humidifier, tubing, cable, and full face mask? The one that came with it is super soft and flimsy and I have to awkwardly stuff the full face mask and cable in and squish it on top. I ended up accidentally tearing my tubing this way =\. I’m not the best traveller and I’m a little disorganized and a bit of a klutz, so I would like a case sturdy enough to hold its shape, as light as possible, and as big as it has to be, but not much bigger. Any suggestions?

If you are anywhere near a Fry's electronics, stop in and look at their selection of Pelican cases. Can't get much sturdier than that.serabeth wrote:Hi,

That's one of the things I don't like about Respironics, the cheap bags... Resmed ships nice padded bags with their machines.serabeth wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 12:20 pmHi,

Most people suggest looking at camera bags, you can arrange the partitions inside so you've got a spot for the adapter, mask, humidifier and blower.

Thanks for the suggestion! Do you happen to know whether my cpap has to be separate from all of my other stuff? I found this backpack on amazon that looks like it would do what I want it to and also allow me to pack other stuff like my laptop.palerider wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 2:24 pmThat's one of the things I don't like about Respironics, the cheap bags... To qualify for the FAA 'this doesn't count as carryon and you can't take it away from me medical exemption, it has to pretty much just be the cpap and associated stuff. (and no, you probably can't claim your laptop as part of your needed medical equipment just cuz it has sleepyhead on it).
As far as I know.

Re: Sturdy travel case?
You can put your cpap inside your carry on if you wish but it loses the medical free carry on exemption when you do that.
But if you have room and it means only one thing to lug around...why not.
To get the free carry on exemption the machine has to be totally separate with nothing not related to cpap in the carry on.
TSA may or may not even look inside...or care what you have in that cpap bag if it is all by itself. It's the airline gate people that might squawk if they think you are trying to sneak a laptop in a cpap bag. They probably won't look but you never know for sure.
TSA doesn't care...they are looking for bombs or bomb making stuff. Laptops and phones have to be laying out in their own bins now unless you have TSA pre check status and then it's still up to the TSA agents what they want to ask you to do. I lot depends on if they got lucky the night before.
I just made a trip a couple of weeks ago and they didn't even ask me to unzip the cpap carrying case to look inside.
I did get dinged for a random something...so they wiped down my phone for explosives.
And that was with TSA pre check status.
TSA doesn't care what's in whatever bag you carry as long as you aren't carrying prohibited stuff...it's the airline gate people who care about the carry on stuff.

Re: Sturdy travel case?
I have traveled an average of twice a week for 12yrs. I carry my S9 soft bag. I'm careful, but I've never had any damage to my CPAP or bag.

That bag you're looking at is a full sized back pack, and probably way overkill for your cpap equipment. I'm not sure if it would even be allowed (size wise) as a carry-on bag (ignoring medical exemption) As others have mentioned, everything in the bag must be cpap related. Here is the camera bag I use https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Bac ... camera+bag. It's a third of the cost of what you're looking at ($30.00). My bag has a Resmed S9 & humidifier, hose, hozer hose management system, power supply, full face mask, surge protector, roll of electrical tape(emergency hose repair), oxygen adapter, extra filters, travel cpap wipes, couple of polident tabs (emergency humidifier cleaner after I found a mold farm on the paper towel I place in the humidifier while travelling), cough drops, cotton ball, essential oil & ear plugs. I do try to leave the kitchen sink at home while travelling.

My bag is for a grab & go/hospitalization/travel bag. If I have an accident or something my family knows where the bag is, and can bring it to me. It will supply me with 3 nights of power & pass-over humidification. If I don't have to worry about power, I'll use tap water while travelling and clean the humidifier when I get home.

Probably wise, I imagine most places don't have adequate hookup facilities for your particular kitchen sink
